FAULTS IN THE OPERATION OF THE PLANT.

THEIR CAUSES AND ELIMINATION.

DEPOSITS ON THE CEILING OF THE DRYING CHAMBER.

possible causes:
a)Maladjustment of air disperser.

Remedy: Reset wings of air disperser, so that the slots through which the air is passing
are narrowed slightly. If result insufficient, repeat resetting until moist deposits
disappear.
MOST DEPOSITS ON THE WALLS OF THE DRYING CHAMBER IN THE SAME
HEIGHT AS THE ATOMIZER WHEEL.

possible causes:
a) Insufficient speed of the atomizer, so that the particles are too large.

Remedy: Increase the speed of the atomizer within the limit stated in the instructions for
the operation of the atomizer itself.

THE FEED IS TOO VISCOUS OR NOT SUFFICIENTLY HOMOGENEOUS.

Remedies:

i) Homogenize sufficiently,
ii) Heat the feed if possible,
iii) Increase the speed of the atomizer.

DEPOSITS EVERYWHERE ON THE CHAMBER WALLS.

possible causes :
a) A too high rate of feed, so that the evaporation capacity of the plant is exceeded.

Remedy: Reduce the number of revolutions of the feed pump.

THE CHAMBER MAY NOT HAVE BEEN SUFFICIENTLY HEATED BEFORE

THE DRYING WAS COMMENCED.

Remedy: Do not switch over to product until both inlet and outlet temperatures have
reached the correct figures.

ASSYMETRICAL DEPOSITS OF MOIST PARTICLES ON THE WALLS FOR THE

CHAMBER.

possible causes:
a)Irregular distribution of air.

Remedy: Adjustment of the wings of the air disperser.

IRREGULAR DISTRIBUTION OF THE LIQUID IN THE ATOMIZER WHEEL

DUE TO PARTIAL BLOCKING UP OF THE HOLES IN THE LIQUID
DISTRIBUTING RING OF THE ATOMIZER.

Remedy: Inspect and clean the liquid distributor (this should be done daily).

EXCESSIVE MOISTURE CONTENT IN POWDER.

possible causes:
a) The atomization is not sufficient.

Remedy: Same as mentioned under clause b).

THE RELATIVE MOISTURE CONTENT IN THE OUTLET AIR TOO HIGH.

Remedy: Increase outlet air temperature.

The speed of the atomizer decreases and the amps increase.

possible causes:

a) A too high rate of feed so that the driving motor for the atomizer is overloaded. If this
is the case, the outlet air temperature will be falling.

Remedy: Decrease rate of feed.

MECHANICAL TROUBLES WITH ATOMIZER AND DRIVING MOTOR.

Remedy: Stop the atomizer, take off V-belts, and inspect carefully atomizer and driving
motor.

FLUCTUATIONS IN THE ATOMIZER SPEED. -THESE ARE OFTEN AUDIBLE.

Cause is usually defects in the driving motor, so that a mechanical resonance between
the atomizer and the driving motor is established.

Remedy: Careful checking of the electric motor for the atomizer by a skilled electrician.

REDUCED EVAPORATION CAPACITY.

This may have the following causes:

a) Reduced flow of air through the system.

Remedies: Check the number of revolutions for pressure and suction fans. Repair driving
motors if necessary. Check that the butterfly dampers have not gone out of the correct
position. Make sure that no blockings have occurred in air filter, air heater or ducting.

A TOO LOW TEMPERATURE OF AIR.

Remedy: Check steam pressure and increase if necessary. Open condenser valve and
check that no accumulation of condensation has taken place in the air heater.

ACCUMULATIONS OF AIR IN THE STEAM PIPES OF AIR HEATER.

Remedy: Adjust setting of vent valve.

LEAKAGE IN THE PLANT THAT WILL CAUSE LOSS OF HEATED AIR OR

INTAKE OF COLD AIR.

Remedy: Inspect plant and repair damaged places. Especially check that all joints are
properly packed.
