8.5 Modifying Cell Power

This section describes the application scenario, change impact and change implementation of
modifying the maximum transmit power of a cell.

8.5.1 Application Scenario

This section describes the scenario where cell power needs to be increased.

Application scenarios are as follows:

l During initial network deployment and optimization, if the coverage, interference,

channel estimation, and capacity are inconsistent with the network plan, cell power must
be changed.
l The cell power change affects the coverage, interference, channel estimation, and
capacity. The configuration of signal power involves many factors, such as the balance
between coverage and capacity, channel estimation effectiveness, and proper interference
control. The power of different cells for different base stations must be changed for a
balance of all factors.

8.5.2 Change Impact

If the cell power is changed, call drops occur due to poor signals of cell edge users and cell
setup fails due to inconsistency between the previous bandwidth and the new power. To solve
the problems, you need to change the bandwidth of the corresponding cell.

8.5.3 Change Implementation

This section describes how to modify the maximum transmit power of a cell.

Context
The maximum transmit power of a cell depends on the Reference signal power and PB in the
configuration information of the PDSCH.

Reference signal power refers to the cell reference signal power for each physical antenna. It
has the following impact on eNodeBs:

l Impact on radio network performance

Increasing the value of Reference signal power may cause cross-cell coverage.
Decreasing the value of Reference signal power may cause coverage holes.
l Impact on channel estimation

Issue 03 (2017-04-26) Huawei Proprietary and Confidential 23

Copyright © Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
eLTE
Solution Reconfiguration Guide 8 Adjusting Cells

Increasing the value of Reference signal power brings higher channel estimation
accuracy, a lower demodulation threshold, and higher receiver sensitivity. However, it
causes stronger interference to neighboring cells.
l Impact on network capacity
Increasing the value of Reference signal power brings better coverage. However, a large
value limits the power used for data transmission and hence decreases system capacity.

PB refers to the scaling factor indexes of the EPRE on the PDSCH. Increasing the value of
PB brings better channel estimation performance, and better PDSCH demodulation
performance. Meanwhile, it also leads to lower transmit power of the PDSCH and therefore
increases the data rate of cell edge users (CEUs).

Procedure
Step 1 Run the DSP CELL MML command to query the current Maximum transmit
power(0.1dBm) and Local cell ID of the cell.

Step 2 Run the MOD PDSCHCFG MML command based on the site situations to set Reference
signal power and PB, to increase/decrease the maximum transmit power of the cell. Table
8-3 lists the related configuration parameters.

Table 8-3 Parameters for modifying cell power

Parameter Description

Local cell ID Specifies the Local cell ID of the desired

cell.

Reference signal power GUI value range: –600 to 500; actual value
range: –60 to 50; step: 0.1; unit: 0.1 dBm

PB Value range: 0 to 3
Recommended value: 0 for single antenna
and 1 for dual antennas

problems, you must change the lengths of the uplink cyclic prefix and downlink cyclic prefix
of the corresponding cell.

8.12.3 Change Implementation

This section describes how to modify the special subframe patterns of a cell.

Prerequisites
The new value of Special subframe patterns has been planned.

NOTE

l In the TDD scenario, the parameter is inexistent.

l The value of Special subframe patterns is related to that of Preamble, Uplink cyclic prefix
length, and Downlink cyclic prefix length.
l Before planning the new Special subframe patterns, you can run the LST CELL MML command
to query the current Special subframe patterns, Preamble, Uplink cyclic prefix length, and
Downlink cyclic prefix length of the cell.

Context
Modifying the special subframe patterns of the cell will interrupt services.

The relationships between Special subframe patterns and Preamble/Uplink cyclic prefix
length/Downlink cyclic prefix length are as follows:

l When Preamble is set to 4, Special subframe patterns can be set to only SSP4, SSP5,
or SSP7.
l When Uplink cyclic prefix length and Downlink cyclic prefix length are set to
NORMAL_CP, Special subframe patterns can be set to only SSP5 or SSP7.
l When Uplink cyclic prefix length and Downlink cyclic prefix length are set to
EXTENDED_CP, Special subframe patterns can be set to only SSP5.
l When Uplink cyclic prefix length is set to EXTENDED_CP and Downlink cyclic
prefix length is set to NORMAL_CP, Special subframe patterns can be set to only
SSP5 or SSP7.
l When Uplink cyclic prefix length is set to NORMAL_CP and Downlink cyclic prefix
length is set to EXTENDED_CP, Special subframe patterns can be set to only SSP5.

Procedure
Step 1 Run the MOD CELL MML command to modify the Special subframe patterns of the cell.
