Transitional Housing
Transitional Housing provides temporary housing for certain situations such as, homelessness, abused women, drug addiction
and much more. It provides a home for people who have trouble affording long term housing, and is set up to transition these
residents into permanent housing later on. This provides these people with a stable, safe living conditions while also helping
them develop certain skills they need to be productive independent adults. The time stayed in transitional housing is usually 24
months but can also be a shorter-term. This is developed in a way that they can grow and learn to live on their own in a short
matter of time.

4
Tucson , Arizona
Tucson Arizona is home to more than a million residents and hosts more than 7 million visitors a year. Tucson is in the
eastern portion of Pima County, Arizona in one of the lushest valleys found in the Sonoran Desert. Tucson is surrounded by five
mountain ranges and certain highways can transform from lower elevations to summits at 9,157 ft. There is a variety of terrains
and is considered one of the best destinations for activities such as hiking, bicycling, and rock climbing.

Pueblo Revival Style made its first appearance e in New Mexico where it was used for a number of projects. It was
popularized in the 1920’s and was established as the “Pueblo Movement”. The Pueblo Revival Style is a regional architecture that
draws information from the pueblo adobe structure and Spanish missions. The style is a choice used for constructions of new
buildings and houses. This style usually reflects climate, cultural, environment, and artistic sensibilities.

Concept Statement
A Sunset Away Transitional House in Tucson, Arizona will be a Safe space for Women and Children. Inspired by the
breathtaking sunsets in Arizona, this home will reflect the calming views and become a safe haven for these women. To bring
in the inspiration taken from these sunsets, the color palette will incorporate neutral colors along with earthy green tones and
accents of orange and red. This will create a balanced, flowing space with calming, and warmth effects. This will be a space for
these women to focus on their lives and will provide a place for them to grow and transition into being fully independent. A
Sunset Away reflects the goodness of life, and by incorporating this color palette along with the furniture design, it really
brings to life what A Sunset Away is really about.

Justifications
The elements that I wanted to portray in this design were nature and wood aspects. I really wanted the color palette to reflect the
Arizona Skylines, so adding in orange and pop of red, with cool tints of green really reflected that in the design. The texture of the
space will always cast the wood elements because the space is reflecting the nature of Arizona. I really wanted to focus on the
Pueblo Revival style but with a modern relaxing feel to the design.
I feel like my design really enhances the Pueblo Revival style by bringing in the main elements such as the stucco walls, the Vigas
on the ceiling and bringing in the colors and patterns that it is known for. I wanted my lighting designs to reflect more of the
modern side but still incorporate that harmony of the style. The space reflects the culture of these clients who will be coming in
and out of the home. Every space was designed in mind of the women and children that will be using it. All the furniture picks
are easy to clean and picked that can work universally in the space.
For the space to meet the needs of being universally designed, I wanted each room to be spaced with the ADA requirements in
mind. Each area was to fit the requirements of the building codes, and was to be easily accessible to all.
