The problem we face everyday with out school is
fairly simple. There is a lack of space in our school
and most places are extremely uncomfortable which
makes for a very unproductive and negative working
environment. Almost everyone in the school is
affected, I am assuming that the DP students are less
effected since they have a private area but instead the
the MYP students have to share a much smaller
space with many more people. Even for the DP
students there is a lack of space. There are numerous
ways that we can solve this such as rebuilding the
building or simply changing the furniture. The aim
of my solution is to make a comfortable working
space.

RESE ARCH (I dentify three research
questions or areas)
Before I will be able to design such an ideal school I
will need to learn and pick up a few skills. I believe
that learning the basics of architecture and school
designing will be necessary. I also think that it would
be help full for me to know what exactly is located
where and why in a school. I will also have to learn
how you can manage space efficiently and design a
building space efficiently. Of course there are many
more things that I could learn but then this list would
be endless. I will be learning these things via sources
on the internet such as online courses on udemy or
brilliant. There are many courses on udemy on
architecture that are cheap (around 10 euros) which I
will be looking in to if I do face a problem I cannot
easily fix. I think all of these research topics/
questions are extremely important for the success of
my product but one topic stands out as more
important then the rest which is the fact that I have to
know how to design a building space efficiently
other wise I will not be able to fulfill my products
goal.
With these results you can clearly assume that the
schools 'working environment' is considered 'bad' by
its consumers from which we can also conclude that
the problem is space and comfort since these are the
only two variables which really effect the working
environment in our school.

For this project I will redesign the school ISUtrecht and
rebuild it to better fit the needs of its consumers.
+ What is the purpose of this type of product? (Based upon
your proof of the problem)
The purpose of this problem is to make a better and more
comfortable working environment.
+ Who is this type of product aimed at and how will it help
them? (Based upon your research of existing products)
The product is aimed at the student of ISUtrecht (the
consumers), it will help them because it will fix a problem
they frustrate about everyday.

This building looks very aesthetically pleasing and has a

couple key features which really make it stand out as a
successful design. The main key feature which makes this
building so well designed and aesthetically pleasing is
that it uses overhangs in its design to save space and make
the building more space efficient. Another key feature that
this building uses is organic curves with clear and natural
cuts which is again just very appealing to the eye because
it looks so sleek. These features combined with an open
design make this building stand out. I will definitely try to
use overhangs and organic curves in my design just to
save space and to help me reach my goal.

This building again uses a clear key feature which makes it stand out which are
again, overhangs and natural curves. I chose this building because the building
without these small overhangs that look organic would look abhorrent. Without
these overhangs the building would just be a box and would have nothing which
would make it stand out as a successful design/ building. This example just
reinforces my ideas of the previous example.

This design again uses an organic curvature and overhangs as key

features but adds one fundamental feature that the two previous examples
did not add which I will also include in my design, consistency.
consistency is an important feature because if something constantly
changes everyone will be disorientated and confused. I will use this not
only in the furniture of my design but also in the architectural structure
of my design just like this building has done. They have a consistent
ration between each turn and also have a pillar in the middle which really
adds consistency to the whole picture.
