SKECO provides engineering, supply and installation services to the power. In the power sector
the focus of the SKECO is on the construction of Power Plants, High Voltage Overhead
Transmission Lines and Substations with auxiliary works. In the industrial and Buildings sector,
we focus on the power distribution, electro-mechanical works, Automation, IT and low current
systems.
2. VISION
To enter into the main stream contracting business in above defined business sectors and to
excel in specialized engineering technologies.
3. MISSION
To work in the power, industrial and infrastructure by providing high efficiency and quality
services to the main contractors and Organizations.
4. Capabilities
SKECO specializes in the Design, Supply, Fabrication, Installation, Testing & Commissioning
and maintenance of the following systems;
We perform:
Long distance HVDC applications using overhead lines are found around the world, in the
PAKISTAN, USA, Canada, Brazil, China and India.
The figure below compares the Three Gorges-Shanghai power transmission as an AC and a DC
transmission system. The top line shows two 3,000 MW HVDC lines, compared to the five 500
kV AC lines (below) that would have been needed if AC transmission had been selected to
deliver the same amount of power. HVDC transmission systems clearly have far smaller
footprints than AC systems.
There are some advantages in using DC transmission system-
Only two conductor are required for DC transmission system. It is further possible to use only
one conductor of DC transmission system if earth is utilized as return path of the system.
The potential stress on the insulator of DC transmission system is about 70 % of same voltage
AC transmission system. Hence, less insulation cost is involved in DC transmission system.
The alternating voltages can easily be stepped up and down, which is not possible in DC
transmission system.
In today electricity industry, in view of the liberalization and increased effects to conserve the
environment, HVDC solutions have become more desirable for the following reasons:
• Environmental advantages
• Economical (cheapest solution)
• Asynchronous interconnections
• Power flow control
• Added benefits to the transmission (stability, power quality etc.)
The HVDC Technology:
The fundamental process that occurs in an HVDC system is the conversion of electrical current
from AC to DC (rectifier) at the transmitting end, and from DC to AC (inverter) at the receiving
end. For this purpose SKECO has already achieved
three ways of conversions:
Natural Commutated Converters
Capacitor Commutated Converters
Forced Commutated Converters
The converter stations at each end are replicas of each other and therefore consists
of all the needed equipment for going from AC to DC or vice versa. SKECO has already
installed such stations and its components in its various projects, which are as follow:
Thyristor valves
VSC valves
Converter Transformers
AC Filters and Capacitor banks
DC Filters
We provide turnkey services for the construction of the substations covering the design, supply,
installation and testing and commissioning of the High Voltage equipment, indoor or outdoor.
Our services comprise of;

4.7SKECO IT & Telecommunication Division
W e can engineer, provide and install the lighting systems for the streets, plants, parks, housing
units and the commercial buildings. The lighting can be self-powered with solar panel or with
power distribution cable. The systems are supplied from reputable European manufactures with
vast experience and R&D.
Therefore a very competitive team to provide the required civil works related to our main
Electro- Mechanical works during the execution of turn-key projects. These include the
foundation works, support structures, Trenches, chipping and plastering, concrete platforms,
asphalting and
The civil works form basic building block part of the electrical and mechanical installations.
SKECO has site access works etc.
By keeping the required civil works in hand we ensure to complete projects on time and within
budget.
Civil Works activities include:
• Site Evaluation
• Survey
• Soil Investigation
• Site Plans
• Architectural Design
• & Engineering
• Design
• Marking at site
• Batching Plants
• Prefab Construction
• Asphalting
• Steel Fixing
• Concreting
• Test Reports
Transmission lines are unique as they have much of their mass in a highly flexible form.
Their unique mass causes them to be very vulnerable as they are continuously exposed to the
forces of the wind.
This makes transmission lines susceptible to vibration, galloping,
or other types of movement.
Wind-induced vibration of overhead conductors is common worldwide and can cause conductor
fatigue near a hardware attachment.
As the need for transmission of communication signals increase, many Optical Ground
Wires(OPGW) are replacing traditional ground wires.
In the last twenty years, All Aluminum Alloy Conductors (AAAC) have been a popular choice for
overhead conductors due to advantages in both electrical and mechanical characteristics.
PERIODIC MAINTENANCE/INSPECTION
Ground Patrol:
A visual inspection through binocular by an experience line man is the only basic procedure to
carry out inspection for the following items.
1. Conductor and conductor joints
2. Damper, fittings, arcing horns, clamps, clevis, etc.
3. Insulators, any flash over or dust on surface
4. Grounding conductor solidarity at top and bottom
Check list, a line man or patrol crew will record during land patrolling
Tower
1. Verticality
2. Rust on members
3. Lose or missing bolts
4. Concrete foundation damage.
5. Step bolt loose or missing.
6. Foreign objects
7. Danger sign ,Number plate are missing or damaged.
8. Anti climbing device damaged or missing.
9. Solar plates for visual aids damaged.

Protective Grounding:
• One of most important step before carrying out any maintenance on electric system
• Voltage may appear at work site due to accidental act, contact with another circuit, or
magnetic induction
• A zero potential has to be maintained between work platform and working device
• Grounding wire must with-stand the system fault current as some grounding does snap
on site
Voltage Detection:
• Secondary confirmation of isolation
• Special voltage detectors are available for all type of voltage ranges (buzz and neon light
type)
• Verifies safe isolation from supply on high-voltage overhead lines without CONTACT
• Has electronic, visual and acoustic indicator
• For nominal voltage range 110 - 380 kV / 50 Hz
Manpower Resources
SKECO has a strong and experienced team of Project Managers, design and site engineers,
safety and QA/AC engineers and supervisors. The manpower comprises all the categories of
the trade. There are specialists in the tower climbing, stringing, cable jointers, expert
electricians, GIS erectors, fabricators, welders and riggers etc. All the personnel are well
equipped with the safety harness and the tools of their respective trades.
The company has enough stock of various types of tools and plant to execute the projects in the
power and buildings sector. However additional tools are purchased as the requirement arises.
The heavy equipment like cranes, CMT, forklifts, shovelsetc are rented from the specialized
companies. Similarly the vehicles used for the projects are owned or leased
