Dear Mr Powell,

Hammond Construction Management Incorporated is interested in the request for proposal sent
to us by your department to design and build a fine arts building in Purdue University Northwest
Hammond campus. The expected schedule for the construction and finishing of the building is
attached in the following pages. Also, the features that will be included in the building are
included as well. The exact locations of where the fine arts building will be built is enclosed in
this document.

Hammond Construction Management Incorporated, under a contract with the Hammond City
Department of Construction Services, seeks to revitalize this land in Purdue University
Northwest to attract current and new students to pursue a degree in Fine Arts. It is the
university’s objective to identify development opportunities, encourage the development of
unused space and reinforce the importance of fine arts in a university that concentrates on
engineering. A more complete scope of services is outlined in the following pages.

Introduction

Some universities have a building called the fine arts building and it is usually for the department
of writing and history or social sciences. A fine arts building can have a multitude of features
that showcase the atmosphere of the departments. In University of Victoria, the fine arts building
has administrative offices, classrooms, a lecture theatre, a photography darkroom and a lobby
where students can hold readings and performances.

Using that as an example, the fine arts building that will be built in Purdue University Northwest
- Hammond Campus will hold the art gallery studio that is currently located off campus
property in Hessvile, due to limited availability on the existing property. In addition, the new
building will allow writing and art majors to have their own workspace to hold events and
classes as opposed to isolated classrooms throughout campus.

One of the key design feature of the new fine arts building will be the studio workspaces that will
be leased to artists to have a space for their creative and collaborative work. This will also
provide them with an area to display and advertise pieces of work for sale. With scalable
partitions, the space is flexible and can accommodate any size and budget requirements. This
space will also have electricity, compressed air, and vacuum utility connections to support
working in materials beyond paint to include sculpting, woodworking, and metalworking.

For the smaller spaces, a special program is being developed, where lease discounts can be
earned by teaching community classes that are open to the public. The concept is to spread ideas
and techniques by allowing artists to showcase their own talents and methods. Our hope is that
we can inspire interest and a creative outlet to any local youth that want to become part of the
local art culture.

Another design feature of the fine arts building will be a music studio, fully equipped with the
necessities to record multiple artists at once. The studio will be heavily electrically wired with
plenty of outlets for equipment such as soundboards, microphones, amplifiers, synthesizers and
more, all of which will be provided as well. Also, there will be acoustic wall paneling to reduce
the noise coming from the room to outsiders which helps to keep the disturbance low in the
surrounding area during sessions.

Project Cost Estimates
The cost of construction of the fine arts building will consist of the building’s framework and the
mechanical and electrical setups for each room being built. The following table is a tentative list
of the materials and equipment needed for construction of the fine arts building. This table
provides the lowest, highest, and median cost for a material when applicable. Furnishings such as
auditorium hall seating, lecture hall seating, administration office furniture, and restrooms will
be covered in the cost of construction. Any other furnishings such as classroom, lounge, and
gallery furniture will be purchased or brought in by Purdue University Northwest.
