POLIM is the brand name of ABB's latest surge arrester


family of highest quality standard. Development was based
on the longtime experience with arresters with polymeric
housings of type MWK/MWD, proving to be the
appropriate product for reliable and economic overvoltage
protection for more than a decade.

POLIM arresters are applicable for both IEC and


ANSI / IEEE-standards.The type test of IEC 60099-4 and
ANSI have been performed and test reports are available
upon request.
POLIM-C
for cable sheath protection
POLIM arresters are manufactured with a housing of
silicone polymer. The silicone as used by ABB, compared
to other polymeric materials, has the highest resistance to
pollution, particular to severe environmental conditions
(salt, water, sand, industral pollution). The favourable aging
behaviour has been demonstrated in tests and proven in
operation, for instance with the weather aging test
according to IEC TC 37, WG4 (5000 hour cycle).

POLIM arresters are applicable for many special

requirements. For IEC line discharge class 1 to 4 or ANSI Surge arrester for the
"Distribution Normal Duty" to "Station Class High Energy". protection of the medium
voltage winding of a
power transformer
