One Day Awareness Programme by MSME at RIT

Introduction:
On 18th August 2017, MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises) in association with Rajarambapu
Institute of Technology has conducted One Day Awareness Programme on “Intellectual Property Rights
(IPR), Advantage of Technical Incubators to MSME & Digitization of MSME” in Video Conference Hall
near Central Computer Lab at RIT.

In a fiercely competitive business environment existing today, awareness programmes are the only source
of sustainable competitive advantage and has a direct impact on firm performance and profitability.
Rapid globalization and increased competition make incessant demands on businesses to continuously
upgrade existing products, processes, and business models to sustain the current and add new sources of
revenue.

The inauguration session started at 10:15 am. The programme was inaugurated by our Chief Guest
Hon. Rajiv Patil, Chairman, Sangli Turmeric Cluster, Sangli, Hon. Abhay P. Daptardar, Asstt. Director,
MSME, Govt. of India, Hon Shamrao Anna Patil, Chairman, Rajarambapu Bank, Hon. Dr. Mrs Sushma S.
Kulkarni, Director, RIT & Hon. Nitin Kolekar, General Manager, DIC – Sangli.

Also, felicitated with Memento to our Industries personalities & Mentors for our Incubation Center.

Objective of the Program:

The basic purpose of the awareness program was to educate them and make aware about MSME latest
schemes and benefits to industrialist i.e Manufacturer & Non – Manufacturer and also about patent filing
& Trademark registration related to product & product development.

Aim of the Program:

To encourage & help industrialist, young entrepreneurs & start – ups to understand about Intellectual
Property Right, Advantage of Technical Incubators to MSME & Digitization of MSME who are based in
and nearby of Institute (i. e. Sangli District, Kolhapur District, Satara District, Pune, Mumbai& Belgaum)

About the Program:

The program was attended by 85 Industry people, 20 RIT Faculty Members & 30 RIT UG & PG students.

Session 1: Hon. Abhay P. Daptardar, Asstt. Director, MSME

Shri Abhay Daptardar sir has taken the session with the topic on “Introduction to Intellectual Property”
What is IP? Different type of IP and differences?, Patent and Procedure, What is Patent?, How to apply
for a patent?, Patent procedures and Patent commercialization, Patentability search.

Session 2: Shri Ashutosh Panchant, IP Analyst, IP Phase, NCL, Pune

In this session Shri Ashutosh Panchant dealt with the topic of “Trademark”
Law of Trademark, Evolution, Rational of protection of trademark- Justification-Economic and Social
Justification of Trademark, Identification of a mark as Trademark, Selection of Trademark, Prior search,
Preparations for filling Trademark application, Infringement of Trademark, Trademark and Internet
issues.
Session 3: Shri Adv. Yashodeep Deshmukh, Bombay High Court, Mumbai
Adv. Yashodeep Deshmukh aimed this session on the topic Industrial Designs/Copy rights
What is an industrial design? Why is it important to my business?, Why should I protect my design?,
How do I protect my industrial designs?, What can be registered as an industrial design?, How important
is it to keep the design confidential before registration?, Copy rights and related rights.

Session 4: Ms. Archana Joshi, IP Phase, NCL, Pune

Ms. Archana Joshi highlighted on the topic Enforcing Intellectual Property Rights (Administrative
proceedings)
If I notice violation of my intellectual property rights, what should or can I do?, Why should I enforce
my intellectual property rights? Who is responsible for enforcing them if they are infringed?, How can
customs authorities help prevent or stop the violation of my intellectual property rights? Do I have to
notify them in advance?, What are my options for settling my IP disputes out of court?, Enforcing
Intellectual Property Rights, IP Rights in Export Marketing, Packaging & Labeling.

Session 5: Ms. Payal Gupta, Celebratory Network Pvt. Ltd.

Ms. Payal Gupta focused on topic Journey to 100 Cr, related to family business, organization design.

Session 6: Shri Piyush Shah, Oriig Facillitations, Mumbai

Shri Piyush Shah spoke on topic “Profiability Orientation & Business Transformation”.

Session 7: Shri Akshay Shah, iWeb technology Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

Shri Akshay Shah shared importance on the topic of “Gain Total Control and Empower your Business
with ERP Solution”.

The participants raised several queries during the programme and experts on the subjects answered their
all questions satisfactorily. The programme was successfully concluded with a formal vote of thanks to
all the participants and the dignitaries present during the programme. The lunch and Hi-tea arrangement
were made by the Research & development Cell, RIT for the participants.
