Question 2

THE SECRET TO BEING AS FIT AS A FIDDLE

In life, there are many secrets to attain success. However, the secret to good health is
actually quite simple.
People, both young and old, should get regular exercise. Twenty minutes of exercise a
day can help to boost your energy and keep health problems such as diabetes and
heart disease at bay. Exercise makes you not only healthier but also happier. Exercising
releases feel-good hormones that help to reduce stress.
Say a big ‘NO’ to processed food and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Processed food
such as friend chicken, burgers and pizza is laden with salt, sugar and fat. Fruit and
vegetables, on the other hand, contain vitamins, minerals and fibre essential for your
body.
Getting enough quality sleep is vital for a healthy mind and a healthy body. A lack of
sleep leads to difficulty concentrating and moodiness. If poor sleeping habits continue
for a long time then it could lead to health problems such as high blood pressure.

No matter who we are, we can all make a difference to the well-being of others. Here are some waus to
promote community in schools.

My School, My Home

It is good to have a sense of belonging in schools. To foster this feeling, students can become involved in
clean-up activities. In addition to beautifying the school, such activities give the students a sense of
responsibility. Clean-up programmes must be spearheaded by student leaders and teachers to ensure they
are carried out effectively.

Reading Club

In line with making the younger generation more literate and knowledgeable, teachers can organise regular
reading sessions in their school. A ‘buddy system’, whereby proficient students are paired with weaker
students, is an excellent way to build the community spirit within the school. Students can also become
involved in storytelling sessions, spelling bee competitions, games and quizzes.

Feed a Friend

Encouraging students to contribute food and drinks to their fellow schoolmates who may come to school
without breakfast is a good way to nurture empathy and compassion. It also ensures students have
adequate food so that they can concentrate in class and perform well in co-curricular activities.

Drop Box

Students can take part in campaigns to collect old newspapers, books or any other products made from
paper. The paper material can be sold to recycling centres to raise funds for other community activities.
Every student in the school can take part and be proud that they have done something for the community.
