Installing the LCD Panel

1. Complete assembly of all electrical items except LCD panel.
2. On the IDM-L35 board side with connector P1, clip the through-hole leads of
headers J4, J5, and the DC power jack J7 flush with the solder-joint. This is
necessary to avoid shorting to the back of the LCD panel.
3. Open connector P1 lock mechanism by sliding lock away from connector. Insert
the LCD panel flex cable into connector P1 with flex cable gold fingers facing the
top of the connector. Verify that flex cable is seated all the way into P1. Slide P1
lock bar towards P1 by pushing on both sides of lock bar until lock bar sides
touches body of P1 connector. The panel will be face down during this process.
Flip the LCD panel back and place on a flat surface outside of the IDM-L35
board. Run the FAT test.
4. If the unit passes the FAT test, clip the through-hole leads of headers J4, J5, and
the DC power jack J7 flush with the solder-joint (P1 connector side). This is
necessary to avoid shorting to the back of the LCD panel.
5. Apply three strips of double-sided foam tape (3M 4008-1/2"X36YD), to the PCB
as shown below. The vertical strips are 2” long, the horizontal strip is 1-3/4” long.
First place the left strip just above the top pin of J7 and just right of J5 pins. Now
place the center strip, and finally the right strip. Note that the horizontal tape is
applied directly to the PCB, not the flex cable.

6. Remove any adhesive or plastic film backing from the back of the LCD panel.
Then remove the backing from the tape and fasten the LCD panel. Ensure that it
is aligned and centered to the edges of the PCB, covering the LCD silkscreen
outline. There should not be any obvious misalignment in the LCD panel.

Installation of Stand-offs (RDK only)

The RDK version of the IDM-L35 Module requires four stand-offs which act as
feet to level the IDM when sitting on a table.

1. The four stand-offs mount in each corner of the PCB on the component side
(opposite LCD side).
2. Secure each standoff with a #4 nylon machine screw. To avoid stripping the
thread, do not over-tighten. Nylon screws are specified to ensure RoHS
compliance.
