Tender Application
The goal of this project is to construct a Mars Rover, designed to carry a cargo and survive a fall.
Working with the client, EMPACT, contractors and designers must work together to bring the
client’s aim and ambition to fruition, through skills and cooperation. The purpose of this tender
application is demonstrate that the members of AORR inc. fulfill the criteria set by the the designers
of DJKCC. Our company has the perfect set of contractors, with the experience and cooperative
abilities needed to work on the construction of this rover. We believe that AORR Inc. is the ideal
company to work with DJKCC and bring their design to life.
This application will prove that our company can satisfy the evaluation criteria given by DJKCC and
be selected as the contractors for this project. This is shown by our team’s experience in design and
technology fields, giving us the edge when it comes to understanding the given design and
requirements. This experience allows us to give feedback and possible solutions to concerns within
the design, and complete the construction of the rover to a high standard. The contractors of AORR
inc. also have the organisational skills to ensure the construction and testing stages of this project
are run smoothly. This is evident by the given team GANTT charts and construction timeline
provided.
The communication skills of members within AORR Inc. were an area of development throughout
Stage One of this project. Our improvement shows through the compromise made for the meeting.
When a suitable meeting time did not arise for a discussion, our teams quickly came up with a
solution to the problem through an online voice medium the following day. This also shows that our
team can solve potential problems that arise during a project’s timeline, and work with the
partnered company to find alternative means of progressing forward. This compromise also setup a
perfect, open channel of communication between our two companies, allowing for a quicker
exchange of information than other teams would have available.
With regards to concerns and potential changes to the design, there are several that need to be
brought up. The length of the design, 450mm, is 30mm outside of the client’s maximum
specification limits. This problem can be solved in a few ways, including shortening the length of the
PVC pipe or changing the way the wheels are attached. There is some dead space of around in
between the cargo compartments that could possibly be shortened down, and reduce the overall
length. Another change that needs to be made is in the procedure. The current order of
construction will obstruct the inserting and gluing of barricading rods into the body, by the wheels.
Thus the barricading rods must be put in place before the axles and wheels are attached. Another
concern that AORR inc. has is with the wheels. The procedure for wrapping the gutter plugs with
foam is vague, and needs to be explained in more detail in order for the contractors to build it
effectively. For example, simply gluing the foam to the gutter plug may not work, so clamping or
some other method of tightly securing the foam in place is recommended to allow the glue to set.
We believe that the members of AORR Inc. meet and exceed all required criteria set by the
designers of DJKCC, and will be able to construct the design envisioned for the client to a high
standard.

1.0 Introduction:
This tender application is by AORR Inc. for the company DJKCC for the client
EMPACT.
The team at AORR inc. has the best intentions for working on this project. In our
team contract (appendix H.1), we put forth a minimum aim for this semester of 70%
- 79%. Anything below this is unacceptable to us and will thus dedicate a large
portion of our time to this project. While our members don’t have scholarships, we
do have proof of being extremely hardworking people aiming for the best here at
Curtin University (appendix I.1). None of our members have any sanctions or
violations on their Curtin records, and have always upheld academic integrity.
3.2 Experience:
“For the better outcome, we value any previous experience related to the
woodwork,
metalwork or school projects such as making motor vehicle etc. All experience
needs to be proven by relevant documents.”
“Incorrect use of tools such as drills and saws can be a hazard which leads to
serious injuries or the rover to be constructed inaccurately. So we expect that
contractors have prior experience using these tools”
Our team at AORR Inc. have members experienced in team working environments,
and all members have previous experience in design and technology fields
(appendix C.1, D.1, E.1), which includes working with drills, hot glue guns and
handsaws. This will help reduce the risk of misoperation of tools, and will ensure a
solid construction of the rover. These are hazards outlined in the risk management
section of DJKCC’s design package (appendix G.1), and we believe our team is
best suited to mitigate these risks. Our experience in design and technology fields
also allows our team to understand DJKCC’s design, and thus are able to give
feedback and possible changes. This will reduce the likelihood of our team being
unable to understand the design, and allows us to complete the project with ease.
Our team also has access to all the tools required to complete this project, as well
as other tools that are useful to have (appendix J.1). These include safety
equipment to ensure the health of our contractors during the construction stage.
3.3 Communication:
“Communication is significant in any situations in a team working environment. At
DJKCC, we acknowledge all the effective and efficient communication skills in order
to develop cooperative spirit.”
Communication was one of the main focus points of improvement within our team
(appendix F.1). As a result our communication has significantly improved within
team members, using Facebook messenger chat to update each other on progress.
Evidence of this can be requested if need. Our excellent communication skills will
reduce the risk of poor communication occurring, outlined in Risk Management:
Design Stage 2.1 and 2.2 (appendix G.1). Our team members have worked in team
environments before and thus can communicate and work in a cooperative
environment. Our company has access to many mediums of communication,
allowing for flexibility and the preference of the designing company. One such
medium is the online voice and text chat application Discord, which was used to
perform a meeting and exchange information. This medium allows for an open
channel of discussion, and is extremely easy to use and access. Communication
like this between companies is extremely important in the event of any problems,
and reduces the risk of miscommunication.
3.4 Time management:
“Time management is crucial in any other industries. We believe that time managing
skill is one of the key to success of our project and it is responsible that contractors
follow the timeline and be punctual for meetings and replying for any enquiries.”
One of AORR Inc.’s strong points is our organisational skills and time management
abilities. All of our members have up-to-date GANTT charts as well as a team
GANTT chart (appendix A.1). These allow our company to track the progress of our
members, and stay on top work. The individual GANTT charts are not provided in
the appendix, but can be produced if need be. AORR Inc. members strive to arrive
on time to meetings and other events, and will give warning if they cannot. A basic
construction timeline has been provided, as well as an overview of the Semester
one assignment timeline. These documents contain information from the
Assignment Brief and Calendar of Activities on Blackboard.
3.5 Professionalism:
“At DJKCC Industry, professionalism is valued and we encourage our contractors to
have professional qualifications and behaviour at all times. Therefore it is
undeniable that the contractors should be able to show their skilled level of
professionalism.”
Each member of our team is respectful to others in meetings. All of our previous
meetings have been recorded in meeting minutes, seen in appendix B.1.
“Although the testing stage will be in the future, after the tender evaluation week
and constructing stage, DJKCC Industry believes that having a detailed
understanding of our risk management plan will definitely mitigate the risks and it is
about professionalism.”
Our members understand the safety equipment rules in the construction and testing
stages. The risk management plan outlined in the design package has been read
and understood by each of our members. AORR Inc. members strive to be
professional when required, in attitude and attire.
