Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Kahoot is platform that gives all students the chance to succeed and is a way to enhance learning for all
students. By using this website and application you can help students who cannot hear or is just a better
visual learner be able to respond and see what is being addressed and can examine the answers with the
class. Some students really enjoy using technology so by addressing that it could increase the information the
student “absorbs.”

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
The students will be given a PowerPoint presentation and worksheet to fill out about all of the facts that will
be included in the quiz. This will give them all the prior knowledge they need.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☒ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

During this activity, students will log on to Kahoot on a iPad, iPod, iPhone, tablet or laptop and plug in the
code provided by the teacher. The students will then fill out an appropriate name to play with. As the
questions come up, they will answer on their own device by selecting the answer they believe is correct. As
they are given the answers after answering, they should assess their learning and see what areas they are
missing in.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
1. Smoking increases the risk of which of the following types of cancer?

2. Approximately 1 out of every __ deaths in the U.S. is attributable to smoking.

3. True or False? Smoking helps you relax.

4. True or False? Vaping is a healthier way to smoke?

5. What is the addictive drug in tobacco?

6. Which of the following diseases is commonly caused by spit tobacco?

7. How many chemicals are inside of a cigarette?

8. What substances are inside of a cigarette?

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☐ Yes ☐ No
☒ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
Like teachers, students need to assess what they did wrong and consider what they need to change or know
to be more successful with that question or subject in the future.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

After the SRT, the students will engage in a partner project that involves taking all the information in class and
from the quiz and putting it into a poster that involves the complications and facts about tobacco.

How will the data be used?

This data will be used as a checkpoint so students can see what they have learned. This would be used more
of a participation grade. It is not formal and is during the lesson so it is really a way to assess what the
students picked up from the lesson and what they still need to improve on to be ready for a formal
assessment. The teacher will also use it to see where they need to cover the information more since the
students and teachers get immediate results after each question.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
The goal for me as the teacher to see what the students have learned so far through the lesson and what else
needs to be covered. My goal for the students is for them to see where their mistakes are and where they
really need to focus to get a better grade in the future.

Reflective Practice:
This Kahoot quiz should assess where the students have strengths and weaknesses and what else they need
to address to have a successful grade. This impacts student learning by letting students know where they
stand and where they can improve. I can take this quiz and recover or cover more areas that students seem
weak in based off this quiz. To extend the lesson, I will continue to cover information and give more formal
assessments based off of the success of the students.
