FOUR ONE
Jesus asked the Father for protec on from the evil one as the disciples
con nue to follow His commands. Jesus asked the Father to set apart
His disciples in the truth through His words. And He finally prayed that
His disciples will be sent to the world the same way Jesus came to save
the lost.
Let’s further expand this lesson by these three points:
[1] Shielded,
[2] Set apart, and
[3] Sent.
Shielded.
Jesus acknowledged the reality of worldly trouble and Satan who
always plan to steal, kill, and destroy us [John 10:10]. Thus, one of his
teachings regarding prayer is a declara on of protec on, “…lead us not
into tempta on and deliver us from evil.” This is what Jesus wanted us
to declare. The psalmist who wrote the traveler’s prayer also declares,
“The Lord will keep you from all harm —he will watch over your life.”
Psalms 121:7. And even Abraham during his quest for a journey to the
promised land, God gave Him an assurance by this promise, “Do not be
afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward. ” [Genesis
15:1]. Therefore, hold on to this promises as well and declare that God
is your protec on, that even if you walk through the valley of the shad-
ow of death, you will fear no evil knowing that God, the Creator of
heaven and earth is your shield.
Set apart.
God’s desires for you and me is not to remain in a situa on of sin, guilt,
and defeat. He wants to set us apart from the ways of this world and
instead be in tune with the ways of God. The word “set-apart” is also
the same word as ‘sanc fy,’ that means God wanted to remove
something in our lives that could destroy us. In the same way, being
sanc fied means God is bringing and adding something in our lives that
would make our rela onship with Him grow stronger and deeper. A er
all, sanc fica on means “to be made holy,” He is molding us to be like
His Son Jesus. He demands holiness because God is Holy.
When we received Jesus, we are jus fied from our sins, but we are s ll
in the process of sanc fica on, day-by-day through the work of the
Holy Spirit in us and through the word of truth

which is the Bible. Everyday, allow the Holy Spirit TWO
and God’s Word to mold you in Christ-likeness.
Sent.
Jesus’ goal is not just for His disciples to selfishly enjoy the free gi of
salva on and eternal life by their own. His mission is for every tribe,
na on, and tongue to know and to enjoy Him. That’s why before His
ascension, He gave this final command to His disciples to “Go and make
disciples of all na ons…” [Ma 28:19-20]. And at the same me, He
empowered them to be witnesses by giving His Spirit and all the
heavenly gi s needed to share the gospel to their families,
work-mates, classmates, friends and to a stranger in the other parts of
the globe. It doesn’t ma er where you are right now because at this
moment, where you are is where you are being sent. Be unashamed of
the gospel because it is the power to change lives. In conclusion, we
should remember that we are all Jesus’ disciples and His prayer
transcends me, affec ng our lives now. His prayer is for you as well,
yes you, because you are His disciple. As you follow Jesus, the prayer of
protec on, sanc fica on, and release to preach the gospel is for you
too. So take heart and live the prayer of Jesus in your life. You are
shielded, set apart, and sent.
