ANNIVERSARY SPEECH

The great Chinese general, military strategist, and philosopher Sun Tzu once said,
“The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but
on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather
on the fact that we have made our position unassailable.”

One of the most significant lessons my MOL Family has inculcated upon every fellow
seafarer is the fact that success comes easy to those who are well prepared. Whatever the
setting is, one thing remains consistently true, the best performer is usually the one who is
most prepared. Nevertheless, it has heavily emphasized the fact that preparation does not
necessarily mean torturing one’s self to be so; rather it is about getting ready to meet all the
expected challenges head on - using the most effective methods available.

It is a fundamental rule that in order for a vessel to be seaworthy, it must be

adequately equipped for the voyage and manned with a sufficient number of competent
officers and crew. It is important that every seafarer is trained properly in each possible
aspect of maritime training that could help him face the troubles out on seas and would
equip him with various types of situations that can arise on a vessel along with ways to deal
with it. Needless to say, every seafarer is highly expected to be knowledgeable as to the
specific requirements of seaworthiness and the particular risks and perils of the voyage he
is to embark upon as the trade is undoubtedly and highly impressed with public interest.

It is for this very reason that I am wholeheartedly grateful to my MOL Family, who
has, at the outset, undeniably and untiringly committed itself to instill valuable knowledge
and to provide skill enhancements and career developments to its officers and crew
through a wide range of structured programmes and extensive trainings. It starts with the
most basic aspects of training and moves on to the more complex areas. With the
proliferation of specialized activities and their attendant peculiar problems, MOL has
constantly laid emphasis on the magnitude of mastering the basics before advancing to the
more complicated mechanisms, for apparently, how will one expect himself to deal with the
intricacies if he is still inadequate with the basics?

Furthermore, MOL has for a long period of time maintained that training is a
fundamental element of its business philosophy and that the safety of everyone is its
primary priority. It is for no less important reason that I shall forever be indebted to the
MOL for looking after our personal and individual welfare in the face of considerable
amount of risks and sacrifices we have to take working away from home in the high hopes
of getting hold of the opportunity and competence to provide a better future for our
families.

With this, it shall always be my honor and my source of pride to serve as an active
and equal partner of MOL, not only in advancing its revered visions and commitments, but
also in achieving more significant milestones and countless successes in all its magnificent
years to come. May the Almighty unceasingly bless this company, for it is by His grace that
we have come this far, and His grace shall lead us through.
