To Whom It May Concern:

I am applying for an elementary or early childhood teaching position. I currently reside in Lake Orion, MI and am
looking for a teaching position within the area or state. Currently I am employed through Troy Schools as a
preschool teacher. I have taken the collegiate requirements to obtain a bachelor’s degree in both elementary
education and early childhood. I have passed the ZS (early childhood and special education) MTTC, as well as the
elementary education MTTC, making me highly qualified in both areas.

In preparation for becoming a professional educator, I have completed over 120 hours of classroom placement
observation and instruction, as well as, taking all of the required classes through Alma College’s Teacher Education
Program to hold a major in elementary education and an early childhood and special education endorsement (ZS).
My educational experiences have prepared me for teaching in today’s modern classroom. I have the ability of
providing children with quality learning experiences that will allow for them to use their new found knowledge and
skills in their school work and learning to apply these concepts to their daily lives. I will help them to embrace their
creativity and imagination to further their learning. I will equip my students with the mindset that every child can
learn. They will learn to respect and care for their school, their teachers, their peers, and their schoolwork, but most
importantly themselves. My mission is to instill in them a love and excitement for learning by making lessons
relevant and interesting.

My job as a preschool teacher, combined with my experiences as a GSRP assistant teacher, student teacher,
substitute paraprofessional, dance camp counselor, and inner city school volunteer, has allowed for me to work with
children of various age groups and abilities. From these experiences I’ve learned how important it is to be able to
scaffold and differentiate learning. Additionally, these experiences have shown me how important it is to get family
and community members involved.

In addition to this application, I have an electronic teaching portfolio (marissasheffield.weebly.com), which can
provide you with additional information concerning my background, interests, and experiences. My philosophy of
teaching, a complete classroom management plan, several professional references, and a collection of examples of
my classroom work can be found in my electronic portfolio.

I would be honored if you would consider my request for a personal interview in order to discuss the teaching
position that is available. Should you need to reach me, please feel free to call me at 586-623-9058. If I am not able
to answer your call, please leave a message, and I will return your call as soon as possible.

Thank you for your consideration! I look forward to talking with you soon.

Sincerely,

Marissa Sheffield
