Passing a professional practice exam (PPE) is just one of necessary actions established by Engineers Canada
(https://www.engineerscanada.ca/national-guidelines) to ensure that engineers across Canada achieve a similar
level of standard. In 2011, when I began my studying for my PEO PPE
(http://www.peo.on.ca/index.php/ci_id/2060/la_id/1.htm) in Ontario, I had no idea where to start. But by reading a
lot of material and practicing several practice exams, it became clear what I would be faced with on the exam.
As shown in the image below, this is what you can expect on Part A: Ethics.

3/1/2018 ONT PPE - Lesson 1 of 9 - Ethics Overview
Your goal is simply to get 50 or more marks out of 100 to pass Part A. In order to accomplish this,
you'll need to have a good understanding of the key definitions for question 1. For questions 2, 3
and 4 you'll need to have a solid understanding about how to answer the different types of long
answer questions.
You may want to print off the image above so that you can use it as a high-level guide for your
Ethics studying. You should also purchase a copy of the 5th edition Canadian Professional
Engineering and Geoscience: Practice and Ethics (/5th-edition-ethics) book if you don't already
have it.
Today's lesson is a visual one. Once the image above is burned in your brain, you'll have a laser-
like focus about what to study for for Part A. We'll get into to this in more detail in the lessons to
come. But like your first day of any engineering class, I wanted to keep it light.
If you haven't yet registered for the exam, that would be a good first step. You have to start by
submitting your PEO licence application (http://www.peo.on.ca/index.php/ci_id/14824/la_id/1.htm)
before you can be given the approval to write.
