• Swiss development psychologist.


• Constructed the cognitive learning theory after observing
children for many years.
• Perceived that children think very differently than adults.
• Felt that children were active learners and didn’t need
motivation from adults to learn.
• Theories support the use integration of technology because of
the opportunities technology supplies to teach diverse
population of learners with different learning styles.
• Believed that there are four invariant stages of development.
§ Trial-and-error experimentation: Exploration of objects
to determine their properties.

Sensorimotor § Goal-directed behavior: intentional behavior to cause


specific result.
(Birth-2) § Object permanence: understanding that object
continue to exist, even when removed from view.
§ Language: development and expansion vocabulary and
grammar.
Preoperational § Pretend ply: performance of real life with specific rules

§ Distinction between one’s own and other’s perspectives:
understanding that one’s personal thoughts and
feelings can differ from someone else’s.
Concrete § Class inclusion: ability to categorize objects into two or
