Course Description
This fourteen-week asynchronous online course is designed to develop knowledge and skills in
reading comprehension within classrooms spanning ages 5 -18.
It is recommended that you print out the syllabus for handy reference.
Objectives
Content
* Free online audio and visual course materials will provided throughout the course.
Training
* Prior to our course, free audio and visual online training of the learning management system
(D2L), setting up an Outlook email, and Skype will be provided.
There are 5 fifteen minute training sessions. At the end of each session, please complete the
mini-quiz.
* Throughout the course, you will receive free audio and visual training in Web 2.0 tools.

We will be using APA style for reference and citations. Audiovisual demonstrations for APA can be

Evaluation
A passing score of 80% on all assignments and assessments leads a professional development
certificate for Strategies in Reading Comprehension from the International Literacy Association.
(ILA). In addition, you will receive membership to the ILA for one year.
Membership benefits
Authentic assessments, peer collaboration, and instructor-student collaboration are an integral part of
our course for creating a vibrant and constructive learning community. The learning management
system presents our course calendar for due dates of assignments, assessment, a checklist for
assignments, and links to various rubrics. Please log into the learning management system at least
every other day. Unless otherwise noted, grades will be posted every Tuesday at Noon (USA - EST) in
the Grade section of D2L.
