TABLE OF CONTENTS
1. PURPOSE
The purpose of the pipe stress calculation note is to check the compliance of the design of the
piping system with the applicable design code ASME B31.3 and related code, specification and
standards cited in the reference Section 2 of this calculation note.
The system under consideration covers line of outlet of Flare Scrubber MBF-4311 to Flare Tip
ZBE-4311 of STN-South Flare System.
The calculations in this document have been carried out by using the software package:
CAESAR II Ver. 5.20.2.

5. CALCULATION
5.1. Wind
Wind Loads in X (North – South) and Y (East – West) axis have been taken into account in this
calculation. Wind loads have been calculated by considering one hour sustained wind velocity of
28 m/sec at 10 m elevation with wind shape factor 0.8. Other profile sustained winds at above 10
m elevation have been defined as per API RP 2A. Detail calculation of profile sustained winds
shown in Appendix E1.
5.2. Seismic
Frictionless support modelling is generally employed as per Section 6 of “Pipe Stress Analysis
Philosophy” (2006-4200-1L-0007). For stress analysis the guides and supports are modelled with
no gap, unless otherwise stated in the support list of this document.
Insulation Weight has been considered in this calculation by assuming the insulation is Calcium
Silicate with density of 180 kg/m3.
The hydrostatic pressure which has been taken as per the latest STN-S Lines List & Critical Lines
List (Document No.: 2006-4200-1U-0002. Rev G).
The forces and moments on equipment nozzle have been check with allowable value on
Appendix B and Appendix C of “Pipe Stress Analysis Philosophy” (2006-4200-1L-0007).
All flanges 900# rating and above shall be checked for flange leakage.
5.10. Transportation
Transportation shall be considered in the pipe stress analysis by applying applicable accelerations
based on ”Specification for structural skids for package equipment” (2006-4291-6L-0003) as
±0.25g for horizontal and 1±0.4g for vertical accelerations.
A trust effect for the TIP Flare due to the start of Vent Flare Boom creates a vertical force. Jet
reaction force 1273 lbf (5664.85 N) has been assumed and shall be updated in accordance with
Flare Tip vendor data.
5.11.2. Radiation
The maximum radiation temperature of 264.9oC has been considered on the TIP flare with wind
velocity 18m/s as per Doc no 2006-4200-5J-0001 Rev. E – STN-S Vent Dispersion and
Radiation Analysis. Temperature profile along the stack shall be referred to this document.
To simulate various operating cases Flare Scrubber and Flare Tip, the following special operating
cases have been considered in this calculation:
1. System in operating condition and no burning in flare tip.
2. System in operating condition and radiation temperature due to flare dispersion as per doc
no 2006-4200-5J-0001 Rev. E - STN-S Vent Dispersion and Radiation Analysis. Basis
assumption for wind velocity when flare dispersion occur is 18m/s.
