HISTORY
▸ The company Sony was founded in 1946 under
another name. The company was originally a
electronics shop from Japan. The founder
developed Japan’s first tape recorder called
the Type -G.

▸ Became Sony in 1958 after they created their

tape recorder.

FIRST PRODUCTS / EVOLUTION

▸ Sony’s TR-63 radio was Sony’s first radio system which was a portable transistor radio.
▸ Sony produced the first Portable music player in 1979 called the Walkman.
▸ Norio Ohga encouraged the development of the compact disk in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
▸ Sony produced other computers in 1980 but these weren’t as successful as their other products.
▸ The playstation was developed and released in early 1990’s.
▸ 2001, Sony entered a joint venture with a Swedish Telecommunication company called Ericsson
and they created Sony’s first phone the Sony Ericsson.

▸ February 2014, Sony announced their new PC system released for the public called VAIO.

the digital era is their latest Games Console the
Play Station 4 (PS4), selling 75 million units thus
far.

latest major game releases, as well as running
the latest applications such as Youtube and
Netflix.

products to the audiences. This is due to them buying out these smaller
technology companies with these ideas.

smaller gaming companies its allowed them to releases better quality games
as well as games with a good story; this again is a factor that would impact the

▸ Sony is also the second largest company with the

amount of employees they have. They are just under
Samsung with a 128,400 employee headcount.

▸ Took the steps to facilitate communication between top

management (including the CEO) and Sony employees.

▸ Held Sony family day in multiple countries, inviting

employees to bring their family members to the office.
