1. Infrastructure
A. A new 7 storey building in Lady reading hospital with 800 beds and 32

Operation Theatres completed and also construction of Medical and Allied

Wards at MTI Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar 8 floors (picture from

November 2017)

B. Renovation of Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar

・ General facelift.

・ Equipment upgrade such as MRI, Angioplasty machines

・ New ICU and other wards

・ New library, pharmacy.

・ Patient transfer

・Employee Attendance System

C. Establishment of Casualty Block KTH nears completion.

・ 9 floor building
・ 265 beds
・ Basement parking
・ Mass emergency floor & specialized units
・ Equipment worth millions for Accident and Emergency, Neuro Surgery, Cardiology
also procured.

D. Peshawar Institute of Cardiology. The hospital is equipped with operating theatres

and four catheter laboratories. PIC Hospital has 100 beds, including beds for:

・ cardiac and thoracic surgery

・ cardiology day case unit

・ adult intensive care

・ the transplant unit.

・40 bed hospital in Manki Shareef Nowshera completed last year.

・40 bed trauma centre in Haripur started by KP govt functional now.

F. 110 bed Shaheed Farid Khan DHQ hospital in Hangu inaugurated in March 2018.

H. 40 Bed Yar Hussain Hospital in Swabi with nurse and paramedics hostel.

I. 200+ bed hospital in BatKhela Malakand to be operational by mid 2018.

K. Molvi Ameer hospital upgraded to category B with addition of 108 beds.

L. Construction of a new block in Saidu Sharif Hospital with 500 bed capacity. Ground

M. King Abdullah Hospital( DHQ Mansehra) financed by KSA and will be operated by

KP Govt.

P. Renovation and upgradation of equipment in Ayub Teaching Hospital with;

・ Increase in bed capacity in ICU, CCU and emergency wards.

2. Reforms
A. Due to the improved working environment, salary and perks offered to specialists,

Pakistani doctors quit their jobs abroad and joined LRH.

B. As part of reforms in health sector, last year KP govt had increased health

professional allowances.

Note: These allowances are in addition to the salary.

・ Paramedics&Nurses - 10k (Prev zero)

・ Health & Dental surgeons in rural areas:

- 52k Class A (Prev 15k)

- 72k Class B (Prev 15k)

- 92k Class C (Prev 15k)

・ Health & Dental surgeons in urban areas:

- 42k Class A (Prev 15k)

- 62k Class B (Prev 15k)

- 82k Class C (Prev 15k)

・ Specialiats in Urban areas:

- 60k Class A (Prev 10k)

- 80k Class B (Prev 10k)

Health professional Allowance for doctors of MTIs in KP:

C. Health Insurance "Sehat Insaf Card" was launched for the poorest segments of

society. Under this scheme

・ Rs 2.5 billion are spent:

・ 1.5 million people are enrolled

・ 44k hospital visits

・ 92k hospital admissions

・ 106 hospitals available

D. Transgenders of KP have been conferred with the health insurance. As per the

policy, they will be eligible to utilize health services to the tune of Rs. 540,000 per

beneficiary per year.

E. Strength of doctors in the province recruited in 5 years increased by 200% from

2500 to 6500

・ around 15k jobs created in 2016-17 alone

・ improvement in salary cap from 10-15k to 42-80k under MTI.

F. As a result of Medical Teaching Institutions act (MTI) and all these institutional

reforms patients are going to govt hospital and private hospitals/clinics feeling the

competition as stated in the article.

G. PTI KPK inherited a huge epidemic of Polio when they made government in 2013

causing Pakistani travellers to provide polio certificates for travelling abroad.

Through their effective campaign "Sehat ka Insaf" KP govt eradicated polio and not

a single case reported in 2017.

H. Due to institution-based practice(IBP) in KP teaching hospitals, there is a marked

decrease in the business of private clinics and hospitals as patients getting prompt

and better diagnostic and treatment services.

teaching hospitals business of private diagnostic centers on the decline in KP.
