A cold war first time collaboration in
space

In July 1975, U.S. and USSR collaborate each
other for the first international space crew
mission called Apollo-Soyuz mission. The
aim of this project is to build the detente
between the two countries.
After the end of the proxy war in Vietnam
in 1975, two countries were entirely
mistrustful and the relationship is more
worse than before. As a result, the
collaboration of space program is
established so that the tense relationship
between US and USSR begin to improve.
The space race was driven by competition
between U.S. and Soviet Union during the
cold war for dominance in spaceflight
capability. U.S. has created Apollo
spacecraft which is America’s moon
landing program while Soviet Union
created Soyuz spacecraft. However, both
countries had lost astronauts because some
experiment cannot accomplish only by
their own as they need others to help them.
The curator of Apollo-Soyuz exhibition,
Space Race, say that “The death of the crew
of Soyuz 11 returning from the Salyut 1
space station in 1971 prompted a consensus
that both sides required some sort of rescue
feasibility.”
Consequently, the two super countries
establish Apollo-Soyuz mission to do
experiment in space. The collaboration
went well. Two crews visited each other’s
spaceship and exchange gifts. This
program open the way for international
space mission with many other countries.
It ends the competition in space between
two superpower countries and demonstrate
an example of international cooperation. In
the future, there will be more of
international cooperation on space.

The fear of Thai people about Communist
spreading in Thailand will be at ease because
the communist is coming close to Thai. Military

this collaboration between U.S. and USSR, there
will be less tension on spreading communist in
Southeast Asia.
However, the cold war will not end soon
because it’s only peaceful in the space, but on
the Earth, the problem that cause by Cold War is
much more. So it need more time to end of
those proxy wars. Two superpower countries
also don’t want to lose their power meaning
that they will continue fight each other until
one side surrender.
The Great Protest in Southern Thailand

Hundred Thousands of Thai Muslims protest in
Pattani province from December 11, 1975 to
January 24, 1976 for justice from government.
It is one of the major events in Thai history
affecting on political transition in the three
border provinces.
Most population in the southern provinces is
Muslim and some of them cannot even speak
Thai, but instead speak Malay language. As a
consequence, they didn’t much participate in
the politics causing them to be less influence to
the local government. However, the turning
point of political participation in Southern
province is protest in Pattani province. Many
citizens express their idea to the government
since before that they were afraid of the
government. Professor Arong Suthasas, a
participant in the protest, say that “This protest
is a true public role of Thai people. These
villagers have little knowledge of politics.
However, they began to learn and understand
more information in politics.”
At first, it just the small group of people in
three southern provinces protest for justice
from government as group of 6 marine navies
murder five Muslim youths and threw corpse
into the river in Narathiwat Province on the
night of November 29, 1975. There is a teenager
who survive from this homicide exposing how
injustices and ruthlessness of state officials is.
After a few days of protestation, a bomb was
thrown into the crowd of 70,000 Malay Muslims
causing the conflict to be more serious. Twelves
people is dead and at least 30 protesters was
injured during bomb blast.
The attack was blamed to Buddhist
extremists which cause the
incongruence between Muslims and
local government in three southern
provinces. As a result, there were a
group of politicians forming after this
event which is members in Democrat
Party playing important political role
in Thailand after this protest. People
also feel insecure about the situation in
three southern province. Some of them
believe that bomb blast is the sign of
separated territorial claim. It also
influents inharmonious relationship
between Muslims and Buddhist people.

protest in Southern of Thailand
because this conflict has in depth
imprinting how ruthless of
government was to villagers. It is hard
to forget inequity between Buddhists
and Muslim people in Thailand which
encourage more severance and political
instability among Thai people.
