Analysis Reflection

We looked at many different medias and texts in Civics class this Semester. Some were

easier to comprehend than others. We analyzed most of these documents and videos. Two of the

best examples of analysis were my comparison of Hobbes and Locke, and my Classwork of the

Three Little Pigs. I compared and contrasted the ideas and ideals of the Three Little Pigs, and

recognized the effects of Hobbes and Locke on society. These two works provided the best

examples to fit the requirements of the analysis category.

Hobbes and Locke’s ideas have been viewed as questionable in the eyes of many. The

article that we read gave the facts of the scholars, and was seemingly enough, unbiased. I had to

draw my own conclusions from the sources, and decide what I thought was more relevant in

today’s society by scrutinizing all of the facts it presented. Both Hobbes and Locke used what

they had learned throughout their own education to some up with ideas that would portray the

truths they had seen. I think I did a fair job in presenting my ideas, thus I decided to use it for

this part of my portfolio. Hobbes and Locke had two very different points of view on the topic

of how a government should be run. Hobbes viewed people’s need to be governed as a central

idea, while Locke believed that the government was to be of the people, by the people, for the

people. They differed on many points and this Classwork assignment demonstrates that. I was

able to show these differences in five paragraphs. I think these paragraphs helped for me to
better comprehend the ideas of both philosophers. Both of these pieces help to demonstrate skills

in Analyzing concepts and works. This is why I chose this work for my portfolio. For the

assignment “the Three Little Pigs,” it was demonstrated how there is no clear reason as to why

things happen. The assignment showed that two perspectives of the same event can draw

different conclusions. In my opinion, this assignment best portrayed a comparison between

multiple points of view.

Analysis of works is a skill that is needed in life. Being able to decipher through a source

and find its meaning is used when doing something as simple as watching the news. As shared

previously I believe that in both of the documents I selected for this portion of my portfolio, I did

well. The comparison of Hobbes and Locke showed that I comprehended the methods of both

philosophers, and looked closely at each ideal. The pieces on the Three Little Pigs showed that I

could still analyze just as well through multiple points of view. I do not believe analyzing these

documents was a very difficult task for me, but it was still a task I had to think about before I

worked on it.
