SINCE SEPTEMBER 2016: A UNIFIED PROJECT INVESTIGATING
BRONZE AGE TELLS FROM WESTERN ROMANIA

 Start: 2016
 Partners: Institut für Ur- und Frühgeschichte, Universität zu Köln, Institute of Archaeology and Art History,
Romanian Academy, Cluj-Napoca, Criş County Museum & Satu Mare County Museum
 Study region: Western Romania
 Objectives:
- determining the settlement system of Bronze Age (BA) tell settlements from the region
- investigating BA tells by means of non-invasive methods & determining their structure
- recording outer sites surrounding the BA tells, their extents and internal structure &
establishing their chronological relation with the central mounds
- collecting samples for radiocarbon dating
- reconstructing the ancient landscape of these sites with the help pollen analyses
- excavation of targeted sites (planned for summer 2017: Toboliu)

 Methods:
1) So far: geophysical surveys, drillings, unsystematic fieldwalk
2) Forthcoming: systematic fieldwalks, targeted excavations, aerial photography
