NSERC. The BIOS² (Computational Biodiversity Science and Services) program will
provide training in data science, computational techniques, emerging practices in
data acquisition, and advanced research computing, to students in biodiversity
sciences at partner institutions (Université de Sherbrooke, Université de Montréal,
Université Laval, McGill University, University of British Columbia, University of
Alberta, Concordia University, Université du Québec à Rimouski, and Université du
Québec à Montréal) across Canada.
The positions (Program coordinator and Training coordinator) are expected to be
filled before mid-july 2018, to begin as soon as possible, and will be appointed for
one year, renewable for the 5 additional years of the program. Applicants can
express their interest for one or both positions. The positions locations are flexible
and could be held at either Université de Sherbrooke or Université de Montréal,
and/or remotely. The salaries include benefits, and will be dependant on
qualification, experience, and institution of appointment.

Program coordinator (Bachelor degree or relevant experience)
The program manager will work closely with the Program director (Prof. Dominique
Gravel, Université de Sherbrooke) to oversee the daily operations of the program.
This includes (not exclusively): working on communication material; managing
funds across the universities involved in the program; organising the logistics for
annual meetings and committees meetings; developing and maintaining a list of
internship hosting partners from non-academic sectors; planning and
implementing the program evaluation process including annual reports; serving as
a point of contact for fellows.
Desired skills and experience: administrative management of large,
multi-institutional research projects; interest and experience in graphic design;
autonomy; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; written and spoken
proficiency in both French and English.
Training coordinator (MSc, ideally PhD, in ecology, biodiversity, or biology)
The training coordinator will work closely with the Training director (Prof.
Timothée Poisot, Université de Montréal) and the training committee to: oversee
scientific animation; develop and deliver training modules to the program’s fellows;
review the educational material developed by the program core scientific team;
advise the program faculty on recent developments in the field. This position
includes some travel to visit the fellows in partner institutions when there is a need
for additional mentorship.
Desired skills and experience: research expertise in ecology and biodiversity science;
demonstrable programming skills; strong commitment to open and reproducible
science; experience in teaching or curriculum development in data science,
statistics, or relevant domain; excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
written and spoken proficiency in both French and English.
