Juhani Pallasmaa in his book 'The Architecture of Neuroscience', proves that

90 to 95 percent of what architects do is intuitive. These intuitions are

triggered by our personal experiences, 90 percent of which are stored in our
brain. Thus, our brain serves as the repository, or the autobiography, of our

experience of various spaces. The workshop aims to uncover this repository
through the medium of freehand drawing to develop a better understanding
of the contextual settings of any given place as well as of one's ideas to
address the same.

Master
Increased dependence on computer technology for architectural drawings,
implies that professionals often get caught up in a set pattern of thinking
controlled by computers. In this context, free-hand drawing is seen here as a
readily accessible tool that can enable the designer to break these limits and

unleash the creative knowledge base made of collected experiences.

Addressing this issue, this workshop aims to illustrate to both, practitioners

as well as teachers of architecture how through freehand drawing contextual
settings of any place can be sharply observed, documented and better
comprehended. Furthermore, how one's ideas to address these settings can
be effectively explored.

Peter Rich The workshop will enhance the skill of the professional of decoding a
physical, social, cultural or economic environment through free hand
sketching. Therefore, it will give the professionals a better
understanding of their ideas and any environment they want to
interrogate through free hand drawing. It will draw into the
professional’s own work and access their intuition.
