METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the methods and procedures used in the conduct of this

study. The descriptions include the research design, participants, instruments and data

gathering procedure.

Research Design
This study made use of the Descriptive Survey method to determine the effects of

music to the students of the College of Engineering on the University of Southeastern

Philippines – Obrero Campus during the school year 2008 – 2009. This method is

designed using a survey questionnaire as its measuring instrument in gathering and

collecting data.

It utilized the 5 point divert scale response with the following equivalent point:

Strongly Agree (SA) 4.50 – 5.00 Very High Influence 4.50 – 5.00

Agree (A) 3.50 – 4.49 High Influence 3.50 – 4.49

Ambivalent (AM) 2.50 – 3.49 Average Influence 2.50 – 3.49

Disagree (D) 1.50 – 2.49 Low Influence 1.50 – 2.49

Strongly Disagree (SD) 1.00 – 1.49 Very Low Influence 1.00 – 1.49

Very High Effect 4.50 – 5.00

High Effect 3.50 – 4.49

Average Effect 2.50 – 3.49

Locale of the Study

The study was conducted in the University of Southeastern Philippines – Obrero

Campus, particularly at the College of Engineering. The school is located in Bo. Obrero,

Davao City.

Respondents

The respondents of this study were the Students in the College of Engineering on

the University of Southeastern Philippines. It involves 25 randomly selected students of

the USEP – College of Engineering.

Data Gathering Procedure

To obtain the following data of the study, the following procedures were

conducted by the researchers:

1. The researchers sent a formal request to the Dean of the College of Engineering to

administer the questionnaire to some selected students (Appendix A).

2. Upon the approval of the request to conduct the study, the researchers distributed

the survey questionnaires personally to some selected Engineering Students

during the whole day of March 18, 2009.

3. The respondents were given a short briefing about the questionnaire, particularly

in some items which may not be so clear to them for clarification.

4. After the respondents filled up the questionnaire, data were collected and

tabulated for analysis.
