INTRODUCTION
• Flyover is being constructed from Jagdeo Path to Sheikhpura Mode on Bailey
road.
• The Project is under supervision of Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited
(BRNNL) and constructed by Ranjit Buildcon Pvt. Ltd.
• The length of fly over is (2.750 Km) and (200m+175m) ramp.
• The technology being used for construction of this flyover is termed “segmental
bridge”.
• This project will prove a great asset to mankind as it will prevent chronic jams in
traffic gridlock areas like Ashiana Mode, Jagdeo Path, Sheikhpura Mode and
hence will save considerable amount of fuel & time.
Pile Foundation
• A Pile foundation is a deep foundation
(depth>width) that transfers the load of the
superstructure to a hard strata at a
considerable depth below the ground level.
• Types of piles-
1. End Bearing Piles.
2. Frictional Piles.
3. Combined (End Bearing + Piles).
• In the project concrete piles of combined type
were used.
Piling Procedure
1. Set up the Location of Bored Pile.
We locate the centre of the pile then bore it
with the help of MAIT Machine.
2. Drilling Operation- We use commercially available Bentonite for bore stabilizing.
3. Insert Casing-
Casing is inserted after the bore has been drilled mainly to prevent soil from
collapsing in the bore hole from sideways.
In our site the casing used was Permanent Liner.
4. Insertion of steel cage-
Steel cage is first prepared at the site with the required diameter of Fe 415 HYSD
Bars with shear reinforcement. Then it is lifted by crane and placed in the bore hole.
5. Insert Tremie Pipe and Concreting-
The Grade of concrete used in Piling Operation was M40 having characteristic
Compressive Strength of 40 MPa. The process is known as tremie concreting.
Pile Capping Procedure-
1. Shuttering and Reinforcement-
2. Concreting-
Concrete used in pile cap was M40. After placement of reinforcement, concreting is done
in one go.
TECHNICAL DATA
Diameter of Pile 1200 mm Other Specifications-
1. Pile group - 12
Vertical Load Capacity of Pile 430 T 2. Length of Pile – 36 m - 40 m.
3. Segment Size – 17.2 m top.
Horizontal Load Capacity of Pile 50 T 4. Carriageway Width – 17.2 m (Four Lanes)
5. There are 95 Piers and 94 Spans.
Depth of Pile Cap 1800 mm 6. Bearing used in Pier Shaft is PTFE POT Bearing.
There is an fixed bearing after two free bearings.
7. Expansion Joint is provided after every 3 spans.
No. of Piles in a Group 12
8. Concrete used in pile construction, pier and super-
structure is M40 and M55 respectively.
Total No. of Pile Caps 95 9. Length Of Flyover – 2.75 Km and 200 m and 175
filled up on both sides.
No. of Segments 9 per span 10. The Clear cover provided is 50 mm i.e of Severe
Condition acc. To IS 456:2000.
PIER
• Single-span bridges have abutments at each end
that support weight of the bridge and serve as
retaining walls to resist lateral movement of the
earthen fill of the bridge approach. But multi-
span bridges require piers to support the ends
of spans between these abutments. On the piers
hammer head is casted and on which the
pedestral which hold the bearings.
• Concreting of Pier is done in two steps. At the
centre of pile cap, some length of reinforcement
is left which acts as the development length for
piers.
• In the first step the concreting is done up to mid
height of the pier and in the next step the
remaining concreting is done.
• The Grade of concrete used for pier was M40.
SUPERSTRUCTURE
Super structure is defined as the entire portion
of the structure which primarily receives and
supports loads and in turn, transfer the
reactions resulting from there to substructure.
 Grade of concrete in Superstructure was M55.
• DECKS-
A fly over deck or road bed is the roadway
or the pedestrian walkway surface of a fly
over.
The small segments are glued together at
the site and is post-tensioned using
tendons to make them as single pre-stress
unit.
CONCRETE PLANT
• A concrete plant, also known as a batch
plant or batching plant, is a device that
combines various ingredients to form
concrete.
• A central mix plant combines all ingredients
(includes water) at the concrete plant.
• We used central mix at our site.
• The slabs of the flyover and concrete for
construction activities were made at the
concrete plant of BRPNNL near Saguna More.
