BIOGRAPHY
The Bauhaus School was
founded in Weimar in 1919 by
Walter Gropius. His goal was to
improve Germany's industrial
design. Joined by him were
artists that came out of
movements like Constructivism
and Dadaism. Some of the main
teachers included Josef Albers,
Paul Klee, Wassily Kadinsky,
Herbert Bayer, Joost Schmidt,
and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. One
objective of the school was to
reunite arts and crafts and
another was to create functional
design. The Bauhaus school was
moved to Dessau in 1925 and
Walter Gropius finally to Berlin in 1930. The

school was closed in1933 by
the Nazis.

H E R B E R T B AY E R
Herbert Bayer joined the faculty
at the Bauhaus in Dessau in
1925. He had formerly been a
student at the Bauhaus. He
taught courses in typogaraphy.
