Jesuit Guarani Missions –
Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay
• The value of the Missions is in the sum of their parts;
• They provide a chance to strengthen relations between
countries;
• A common vision based on integrated management plans
that address cultural heritage, as well as its social and
geographical environment is needed;
• Specific management plans, country-level administrative
plans and regional plans are necessary;
• Human resources in the region must be strengthened by
increasing their abilities, creating multi-disciplinary and
inter-institutional teams, and presenting a wide-ranging view
of research, conservation and management of the heritage
sites;
• Increased coordination between countries is required to
guarantee the sustainability of this heritage;
• Research, conservation and management of the missions
must have a favorable and direct impact on the community.

World Monuments Fund

Jesuit Guarani Missions –
Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay
• establish the concept of the Jesuit Guaraní missions both as a
group and as individual entities;
• develop and transmit a global communication for the entire system,
as well as a specific communication for each town;
• promote the special features and particular attractions of each site;
these sites complement one another, and are in no way competitive;
• develop cultural products from the cultural resources available;
• Implement pilot projects;
• devise a full-scale cultural tourism development plan for each one of
the sites chosen as pilot sites and the features of the circuit or
itinerary;
• promote awareness of the need for the sustainable development of
cultural tourism, through training and education of site staff;
• include the “Missions Program” in a route bordered by the
waterfalls to the north, and Colonia del Sacramento and Buenos
Aires to the south. Such a program would entail the revaluation of
the final course of the Uruguay River, once known as the “River of
the Jesuits.”
