Enhancements on SSD-5000 Ver. 4.1

1. Newly connectable probes

1.1 UST-52108: phased array probe for pediatric cardiology

Frequency range: 3 – 8 MHz
Tissue Harmonic Echo is possible.

1.2 UST-5548: high-penetration steered linear probe for peripheral vessel

examination
Frequency range: 3 – 8 MHz, Scanning width: 42 mm
We have a similar probe UST-5524-5. Compared to the UST-5524-5, color
sensitivity of UST-5548 is enhanced. It is possible to detect flows in the vessels
in deeper parts of extremities.
This probe is not compatible to harmonic imaging.

2. Improvement of image quality of conventional probes

Image quality of the following probes are improved compared to the former version
systems.

2.1 UST-987-7.5 (SHD convex sector probe for neurosurgery/neonatal head probes)
and UST-995-7.5 (finger-grip intraoperative probe)
Less banding* is produced at 4-point dynamic focusing in the default setting of
small part application.
* Banding: a phenomenon in which boundaries of focal areas are evidently seen
when the probe is touching nothing. However, the banding is almost not seen
when the probe is applied to the body.

2.2 UST-5540P-7.5 (small parts biopsy probe)

Focal point is more precisely adjusted and put to a little deeper position so that
the focal point does not come too near to the probe surface when a standoff (Echo
Coupler ECM-14) is attached to the probe.

3. Functional improvements

3.1 Steering method of Color Flow area and PW Doppler cursor with steered linear
probes
When the Flow area and the PW Doppler cursor are displayed at the same time,
the movement of the cursor can be switched between the following two methods.
(Preset function is used for the selection.)

In version 4.1, independent or linked movement is selectable with preset.

The movement differs depending on the version as follows:

Version Movement
Ver. 4.1 Selectable between independent and linked
Ver. 4.0.1 Linked
Ver. 4.0 (Ver. 4.0.0) Independent
Lower than Ver. 4.0 Linked

3.2 Rearranging the TV synchronization method
Conventionally the status of TV synchronization was linked with the setting of
“Store Media” preset as follows:

Store Media preset “TV Sync” Synchronization

setting status
Disk, NET, DAS Multi ON Frame
OFF
Other ON Field
OFF OFF

The above has been changed so that the TV sync setting can be selected from
among Frame, Field, and off independent of Store Media setting. The setting is
exactly the same as the status.

Store Media preset “TV Sync” setting Synchronization

status
Frame Frame
Any
Field Field
OFF OFF

Frame: an area on the screen that forms one complete picture and consists of a
set of scanning lines
Field: half of scanning lines

3.3 Menu operation of the TV sync

The above TV sync setting is possible with a menu as well as preset.

3.4 Troubleshooting on brachytherapy grid display using UST-672-5/7.5

The following trouble is solved.
When the following operation is done, the grid disappears.

3
a. Displaying the grid on the convex sector image.
b. Switching the image to linear scanning image.
c. Switching the image to convex sector scanning image again. Then the grid
disappears.

3.5 Improvement of measurements

 Percentile display of fetal weight calculation results by Doubilet’s formula is

possible.
 The result of user’s calculation can be displayed on the report.
 Mark Display OFF function can be set independently for each measurement
package. With the Mark Display OFF function, you can display only active
measurements or all other measurements made so far.
 Auto Registration function of Gynecology report: Once a particular measurement is
performed, the measurement result is automatically transferred to the report each
time when the measurement is finished without need to press the SET switch. (This
function is already available in Obstetrical and Cardiac applications.)

4. Volume Mode
It is possible to switch between the following two methods with the preset.
a. Intermittent refresh display (Set the menu to “Fix”.)
Inside the 3D probe, an array of transducers is moved mechanically to scan the
body.
In this display, the Volume Mode image is renewed each time the transducer array
comes at an end. During the scanning, the Volume Mode image is still and remains

unchanged.
Intermittent refresh
Sweep refresh
b. Real-time refresh display (Set the menu to “Moving”.)

4
In this display, the Volume Mode image is gradually renewed with the movement of
the transducer array.
