Amidst the heat of the summer, we, the third year batch of 2017-2018 of Rizal

Technological University majoring in bachelor of science in architecture have

experience and complied the requirements needed for our coe1 with the help of the our

college department and school. This has given us the chance to showcase what we

have learn, understood, and internalized inside the classrooms and laboratories. The

experience given to us this year will never be forgotten for it will help us improve, grow,

and achieve for more. There may have been a lot of hurdles, challenges, or hardship,

as we may call it, but this does not stop us from acquiring this very day and we were

able to find glory in each day we have finished an eight hour duty inside the office or at

the site of the project being held. We may have differ in our experiences and learnings

during our coe1 but still it does not remove the fact that we will be able to use these

experience and learnings in the near future, may it be on an exam or at work or at an

everyday situations.

It was a fact that looking for a company that would accept our humble

qualifications was extremely hard. Some even went to certain companies but weren’t

accepted due to the number of hours we must comply, some were due to personal

qualifications while some were not just qualified enough during the interview but this

does not stop us, architecture students, to find a good firm that would accept us and

teach us the basics and importance of our chosen major. Summing it all, our efforts

were not in vain for i assume that we have found a place where we were accepted fully

for our credibility.

Arkikultura group was a company managed by architect Edward Cabrera whom

has told us that he graduated at far eastern university. He was a man of his work,

incredible at managing his own company, a generous man to his subordinates, humble

to his clients, and a good mentor to us. He let us hold some of their project despite our

raw talents, let us experience first-hand what it was like to be a full pledge architect and

considered us architects in the making believing that we will be able to graduate and be

successful.

Yes, i and another four of my classmates were humbly accepted in Arkikultura

group for a one-hundred and twenty hours of experience this summer for the

compliance of coe1. It has been a great pleasure working with intelligent architects for

we have been granted the pleasure to detail some of their very own projects. Some of

the architects, architect Jeff and architect Albert were graduates of Rizal technological

university. They have been very accommodating and friendly towards us and treated us

like we were their colleagues. We were not treated like a baby that needed supervision,

instead, we were treated like actual junior architects that needed to know more about

this kind of field. They taught us things concerning the structural alignments of a

residential house and even brought us to one of their grandest project’s site. They let us

experience what will happen to us after graduation, what kind of work we will be doing,

what kind of environment we will be dealing and what kind of field we will be going. It

was fun and knowledgeable at the same time despite the rain hindering us to do more

inside the site at the very least we were taught to measure rooms and details of how

they were constructed.

The five of us we always given a task to fulfill each day. We divide these task to

five so all of us will be able to work and experience the job we might take. There may

have been some faults on our job but the architects at the arkikultura group were nice

enough to tell us what we should have done and what we should do for us not to

commit the same mistakes on other projects. Despite the tasks complications we were

able to finish them in the allotted time and were able to meet their standards on this job,

our details were even used for their project permit and maybe, just maybe, there may

have some revisions but hopefully our creations will be used to their on-site project.

The tasks that were given to us were detailing the sanitation or plumbing of

residential houses, electrical detailing such the light patterns on their ceilings, the

connections of wires and the computations of the electricity consumption, the structural

alignment of the projects, the details of how the roof was constructed and even the

walls, columns, and footings. Of course, it was overwhelming at first because we were

never fast at detailing during regular semester but we just got used to it after doing it

several times inside the office. It was frightening at first because people’s lives depends

on the success of the details that we have done but over time, we managed to

understand how detailing actually works and were a little bit confident with our acquired

skills. Unfortunately, one-hundred twenty hours was not enough for us to acquire more

skills at the office but we understood that new signed order of the president of our

school must have something to benefit us even more because why would he sign it if

not for our good?

If given another chance, which is coe2 for sure, i would like to once again

experience this kind of learning may it be on the same company or not. I know that the

five of us were lucky enough to be given these kinds of task wherein we were the actual

architects of the projects of the company. I hope that another kind of this chance comes

knocking on our humble door, we would be more than willing and happy to open that

opportunity.

This experience honed our skills, talents, and knowledge for us to be able to step

forward another chapter towards our dream of being architects. The knowledge

pertaining detailing is one of the most important lesson we must internalize for this will

ensure the safety of the future occupants of the project we will be handling in which the

Arkikultura group did NOT fail to teach us. They gave us all what we must know about

structural, electrical, and plumbing detailing.

They also taught us some techniques in rendering 3d plans in the software V-

RAY. We expect to learn more if given the chance to enhance our rendering skills so

that we can use it on our future thesis and projects.

Despite having only 120 hours it was a big honor for us to handle real projects at

an early age. We were truly lucky to have been able to do this in Arkikultura Group and

we will always be grateful for the opportunity given to us. Having to experience the

projects with our own hands will be engraved in our mind so that we will always be

reminded of what we thrive for, being an architect.

So despite the blazing heat of the summer this year 2018, the five of us coming

from Rizal technological university, had fun and learn a lot that we could use for sure

this coming semester a.y. 2018-2019. Hopefully, all the detailing we have done will

apply to the major subjects we will be taking this a.y. And with the knowledge and skills

we have acquired, just like what we wrote on our curriculum vitae on what we aim from

their company and for ourselves, we will be stepping towards one more year of our

future success, the fourth year batch 2018-2019 of Bachelor of Science in architecture.
