1 Executive Summary
This document is in response to a request from Dell Services for a proposal for a pilot IoT
solution for high net worth (HNW) clients of AIG. AIG has a requirement to reduce their
insurance claims costs for water damage of these client by monitoring for potential leaks
and unusual usage which may indicate faulty appliances and provide a manual and
automated method of shutting off the mains water in the event of perceived leak.

The initial pilot solution will provide basic rules based triggered alerts which will notify both
the pilot user and the Dell service desk of the event with the ability to either dismiss the
alert or perform a pre-determined action.

The basic Pilot set up could also be enhanced to include more of the features of Dianemo to
provide additional benefits to the pilot users which AIG may consider as a full package in
later phases as more suitable to the HNW market.

2 Dianemo
Dianemo is designed to bring together all digital services, media and home control in one
flexible and easy to use system. It is built around an Ubuntu Linux based “Nerve Centre”
(NC) to provide the central control and interface to peripheral equipment.

The monitoring of the sensors required to meet the requirements of the pilot is an integral
part of the Dianemo software suite. Other devices including lighting control, temperature,
smoke alarms, movement (Infra-red and tremor), etc are also already incorporated.
Dianemo can also be easily upgraded and remotely configured to provide additional
capabilities for the home user if required at a later date. The main features of Dianemo
are:

• Integrated lighting, heating and HVAC control of many manufacturers systems;

• Integration with KNX and other bus based control systems;
• IFTTT based scenarios for any device controlled by the system. E.g. Turn all the
lights on and sound an audible alert if a smoke detector is triggered;
• Access control and security alerts;
• Independent or grouped (party mode) audio playback available in up to 8 zones with
manual ‘follow-me’ control;
• Internet Radio access to all audio zones;
• Audio library control and access (iTunes compatible);
• Control of many DLNA compliant devices (“Smart” TV’s, DVD players, NAS’s);

The system could also be customised to meet the requirements of individual installations
and all functions can be delivered immediately or added incrementally over time.

The system can also be accessed by our secure remote communication facility to enable
our support engineers to configure or monitor installations.

3 Dianemo Hardware

Dianemo IoT Nerve Centre

The Dianemo IoT Nerve Centre (NC) is a low cost, easy to install system designed
specifically for the small and medium sized housing market. It is tiny, consumes around 2w
of energy and can be shipped pre-configured for easy installation.

Despite its small size, the Dianemo IoT (NC) still boasts a wide range of Dianemo features
and is powerful enough to provide a full range of Smart Home features in almost any
home.

Interoperable with devices from a wide range of third parties, the Dianemo IoT NC can
arbitrate between vendors products (i.e. turn off a Z-Wave power socket in response to the
press of a KNX light switch) or with our IFTTT engine, perform multiple actions to specific
data or feedback received from a individual device.

In addition to performing the requirements of the pilot, the capabilities of the system could
be expanded or customised (subject to additional equipment being purchased) to take
advantage of the other features of the system.

Dianemo NC 50 Nerve Centre

If the client wishes to take advantage of some of the additional features of Dianemo it may
require an upgrade of the Nerve Centre used to allow sufficient processing power to deliver
those features to a large property, in this instance we would propose the Dianemo NC50.
This machine is Intel based but still has a low power requirement (around 15w) and is
suitable for larger homes with control of multiple device types or where a large number of
users may require regular simultaneous access to the system.

4 Pilot Requirement
We understand that if agreed the proposed pilot is to be run over two phases and will have
the following scope:

PHASE 1

• 10-20 homes (4 bed+ min size) of UK employees only (both Dell and Client);

• Equipment to be entry level Dianemo NC plus a water cut-off valve and 1 water flow
sensor on the water main;

• Bluetooth Geo fence to detect occupancy of the property;

• Granular rules based IFTTT monitoring and alerts (See required rules below);

• Modified Dianemo Floor Plan dashboard that adds the water status to the existing
status screens;

• Integration with the Dell Command Centre Dashboard;

• Dianemo Mobile App to show the home owner alerts;

• 8 weeks deployment and monitoring of the solution.

PHASE 2

• 100+ homes, possibly in the USA;

• Same kit as PHASE 1;

• Possible addition of more water flow meters on other water circuits, not just the
main.

To meet the requirements of phase 1 of the pilot CHT will need to develop or test the
following:

• Extend existing Bluetooth device tracking facility to allow registration and scanning
for devices to be tracked for the Geo Fence;

• Test ‘real world’ Bluetooth distance limitations;

• Ensure the devices chosen for water flow metering and valve shut off can be
integrated;

• Enhance existing Dianemo App Floor Plan dashboard to show water flow rates and
alarms (if any);

• Enhance Dianemo API to open access to above enhancements and push alerts to Dell
Command Centre Dashboard;

• Provide access for Dell Command Centre from Dianemo cloud to data flow from all
homes being monitored;

• Enhance IFTTT engine to meet the granular requirements of the pilots such that
alerts of different types (Red and Yellow) can be activated on detection of a rule
being triggered as follows:

Alert Rule Action

Burst Rule1 [RED]: if ownerHome = No AND send red alert to mobile app {with
waterFlowRate > x1 then option to dismiss or close valve
from alert, also provide ability to
open or close valve from mobile
app at any time}
send
red alert to Dell Command Centre
(also provide ability to open or
close valve from Command Centre
at any time)

if home owner does not respond

within (xx) seconds then close
water valve
Drip Rule [YELLOW]: if waterFlow < y AND {ownerHome = dont care} then
timeWaterHasBeenFlowing
> z1 send yellow alert to mobile app
and Dell Command Centre
Burst Rule2a [YELLOW]: if ownerHome = Yes AND send yellow alert to mobile app
waterFlowRate > x2 AND and Dell Command Centre
timeOfFlow is between
timeRange() {timeRange is
a list of start and end time
pairs TBA} then
Burst Rule2b [RED]: if ownerHome = Yes AND send red alert to mobile app and
waterFlowRate > x3 AND Dell Command Centre
timeWaterHasBeenFlowing
> z2 then

If the pilot moves to phase 2 and properties in the USA are chosen to be used we will need
to select and train an installation and support partner capable of covering the regions
where the installations are to take place.

5 Pilot Equipment
Basic Solution

The basic solution would comprise of the following items:

• Dianemo IoT Nerve Centre with USB Bluetooth dongle;

• EcoNet Zwave Water cut off valve;
• Zwave Water flow meter;
• 1 Pair of Powerline Ethernet plugs.

The Dianemo NC would be connected to the property’s existing broadband router for App
and external access. The exact location of the NC is to be decided during the installation at
each property based on the optimum position to give the best coverage for the Bluetooth
geo fence and Zwave devices communication. As this will be a retro-fit installation in HNW
property’s and the installation is to be as quick and non-invasive as possible, if necessary,
Powerline plugs are to be used to provide the Ethernet connection back to the broadband
router should this not be in a convenient location.

Enhanced Solution 1

Should the client wish to take advantage of some of the additional features of Dianemo,
such as lighting control, Multi-Room Audio, heating control (subject to system in-situ) an
enhanced solution could be delivered by adding these additional items to the basic
package.

• Zwave dimmer modules to cover 2 lighting circuits;

• Zwave switch modules to cover 5 lighting circuits;
• Zwave 13A plug-in switch modules to cover 5 circuits;
• Dianemo audio zone end points to cover 4 zones;
• Heatmiser Neo heating control.

An electrician will be required to install the Zwave and Heatmiser thermostat modules. Also
a suitable retractive light switch would need to be fitted to the dimmer circuits. As these
are HNW properties and a non-invasive installation is preferred we would recommend
integrating the Dianemo audio zone end points with the clients existing amplifier systems
or the home owner uses a zone amp or a powered speaker system in the rooms requiring
audio control.

Enhanced Solution 2

All of the above solutions can be provided using the Dianemo IoT NC. Should the client
have a need for lots of simultaneous use and/or access control using video door entry a
larger Dianemo NC 50 would be needed.

6 Solution Overview

Every Dianemo NC has a unique installation ID which, along with a public/private key pair,
is used to authenticate itself to the Dianemo cloud using an outbound SSH connection from
the NC. All communication with the NC from outside the home is made via the Dianemo
cloud by reversing through this tunnel.

Within the home the Zwave water flow meter will measure the water flow in the property at
all times, reporting this back to the Dianemo NC. The Bluetooth Geo Fence will periodically
scan for the devices registered on the system to enable the triggering of a rule and so if
required, an alert. If activated (automatically or manually) the Zwave inlet valve will shut
off the water to the property to avert flooding.

Part of the development effort will be to have any alerts generated, pushed to the Dianemo
cloud and on to the Dell cloud. This will enable the Dell Command Centre to receive alerts
at the same time as the home owner and see if the alarm is dismissed or acted on. If
necessary, the Command Centre can send a command through the Dell Cloud to the
Dianemo Cloud and onwards to the specified NC to remotely shut off the water inlet valve.

7 Installation and Support

All systems will be built and configured before going out for installation to reduce the
amount of time required on-site. Installation for the pilot phase in the UK will be
undertaken by our own staff unless there is a need to speed up the overall time needed to
have the entire estate installed. If this is the case, CHT will utilise selected partners who
are certified to install Dianemo. The same model will be used for support.

Because of the market we currently operate in we do not operate a 24x7x365 support

desk. We encourage customers with support issues to email our support desk as these will
be circulated to all members of the team and will be acted upon by a designated person in
the team as soon as possible. For the purposes of the pilot we envisage the Dell Command
Centre acting as first line support with CHT providing second line support and on-site break
and fix. CHT are happy to discuss with Dell the most efficient way of setting up and
operating this function.
