1. Structure
a. How has the internship student contributed to structuring/re-structuring online lessons,
assignments, assessments, and/or communication?
b. Are the structural contributions intuitive and easy for students to navigate within the
Blackboard system?
We just finished the first week of a three-week course, so I would not say that much restructuring of online lessons or
assignments has been made at this point. The internship student has helped create some introductory materials that assist
in getting students acclimated to the course, which has been helpful. He has provided a variety of suggestions for
improvement of the course, several of which have been incorporated already, while others will be incorporated in future
sections of the course. I think he has contributed to making the course easier to navigate for students.

He has been very active in communication with students in terms of providing guidance and encouragement. Not only
has he provided a great deal of feedback to the students, he has dealt with some personal issues students had that
influenced their ability to complete course assignments on time.

2. Subject Knowledge
a. Did the intern demonstrate an understanding of the subject matter to effectively
teach/facilitate learning and answer questions regarding the lesson?
b. Did the intern offer constructive feedback on assignments?
I think he has a strong understanding of the material to effectively facilitate learning and provide feedback.

As I mentioned in response to the previous question, he has provided a great deal of feedback to students. If I had any
concern here it would be that he focus a bit more on the correctness of student responses in his feedback, but he has done
some of that in addition to providing encouragement.

3. Professionalism
a. In what ways did the intern demonstrate preparedness?
b. In what ways are you able to assess the professionalism of the intern in communication
with students in the course?
c. Is the intern timely with online feedback and assignment assessments?
He is well-prepared to provide feedback to students in the course. His communications have been professional in that he
remains respectful of students, and shows genuine concern with whatever issues they may be having. He also includes
some personal comments in his communications, which helps set the students at ease. He also been very encouraging
toward students regarding their completed work. He's been very timely with feedback. He appears to check in on the
course daily, and respond to students as they post.

4. Challenges - How did the intern respond to any challenging situations presented by the
students?
The only challenging situation so far was a student who fell behind in the course, and was worried about being able to
complete the course assignments in this short three-week time period. He assured the student that the course was
manageable in this time frame, as he had taken this course in the intersession as well, and he provided some options,
such as taking the course in Summer 1 or Summer 3 when the course would be over 5 weeks instead of 3.

5. General Feedback – What is going well? What does the intern need to focus on more in regard to
this teaching experience?
I think everything is going well so far. The intern has been very timely with his feedback to students, and makes frequent
interaction with them. I feel confident that students know that he is involved in the course, and can contact him with
concerns or questions. The only thing that I think he could focus on a bit more is, as I mentioned earlier, commenting on
the factual correctness of some of the students' comments. For example, when commenting on articles, there is a great
deal of variability of opinion on the quality, and while the quality is somewhat subjective, we do need to direct the
students to issues that may effect the quality one way or another. He has done some of that, but that would be the only
thing that I would like to see more of. Overall, though, he's been exceptional in his management of the course and
interactions with students.
