Determination of Rainfall Intensity using the Rainfall Intensity Duration Frequency Curves/Philippine Atmospheric

and Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration(PAGASA) Rainfall Equation and Inverse Distance
Method

I. TITLE:

Determination of Rainfall Intensity using the Rainfall Intensity Duration Frequency Curves/Philippine Atmospheric and
Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration(PAGASA) Rainfall Equation and Inverse Distance Method

II. BACKGROUND OF THE COURSEWORK

The activity builds on the two previous course works,” Delineation of Water Basin” and “Determination of Average
Precipitation using the Arithmethic Mean, Isohyetal, Thiessen Polygon and Doppler Radar Estimation”. Using the same
location of the study, further analysis of its precipitation information will be made. This will employ the use of the
Philippine Atmospheric and Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration(PAGASA) Rainfall Equation in the
computation of the rainfall on a minimum of three weather stations located around the basin of study. Intensity
information computed from these stations will be used in the determination of the rainfall on the basin using the inverse
distance weighting method.

III. IMPORTANCE OF THE ACTIVITY

As reiterated on the second coursework, precipitation information is of great importance to many fields. This include
but not limited to the agriculture, transportation, water supply and the energy field. As the intensity and magnitude of
the precipitation the world is experiencing right now is somewhat altered by Climate Change, these precipitation data
will be crucial in establishing weather and climate patterns for the future.
