Objectives

Locate and explain the function of the P1 and P2 connectors.

Explain the purpose and how to perform module “keying”.

Identify what a particular module’s function and capabilities are.

Associate the correct I/O module with a given field device.

Identify the different termination options and field connections

for each module.

Use the Service Documents (SD’s) for each module to retrieve

detailed module information.

General Module Characteristics

Aluminum housing acts to shield

module from ESD, RFI and EMF.
Fins help to dissipate heat.
Module circuitry has conformal
coating applied, effectively sealing the
components against corrosion.
Module has keying pins installed to
prevent installation in wrong location.
Modules are designed to be inserted
and removed with power applied.

Notes

Serial port maximum baud rate - 38,400...adjustable from

300 to 38,400 bps.
The serial port is used for interfacing the control module to
MODBUS devices and other systems such as the Local
Instrument Link (LIL).
All transition boards and terminal strips accept the P2
connector from a particular module as labeled.
The Node Switch is used for only for specific redundancy
operating conditions.

Redundancy Options

Peer to Peer Redundancy - only control modules

redundant
Node to Node Redundancy - complete rack to rack
redundancy
Duplicated control modules
Duplicated I/O modules
Can be accomplished with or without MODULNET

Peer to Peer Redundancy

Notes:

• Control modules must be in adjacent slots.

• Redundancy cable must be installed.
• Valid slot addresses are an odd slot then the next highest
even slot
(i.e., 1 and 2, 3 and 4 to 9 and 10).
• The lower slot number is ALWAYS referred to as the “A”
module, the higher is ALWAYS “B.”

Node to Node Redundancy
with MODULNET

© Yokogawa Industrial Safety Systems Sheet 15

Notes

• Two complete systems.

• Rack and slot addresses for all modules must match.
• Node addresses are set by MBX in each system.
– Valid addresses are even then next highest odd (i.e., 0
and 1, 38 and 39 up to 60 and 61).
– Lower node address is ALWAYS the “A” system.
• Redundancy cable must be installed.

Node
Switches

Notes

• Two complete systems.

• Rack and slot addresses for all modules must match.
• Node addresses are set by NODE SWITCH in each
system.
– Valid addresses are even then next highest odd (i.e., 0
and 1, 38 and 39 up to 60 and 61).
– Lower node address is ALWAYS the “A” system, the
higher is always “B”.
• Redundancy cable must be installed.

Node Switch Settings
If the Local Area System has no MBX installed, a PC is used
to set the node address.
The PC transmits the address which, in conjunction with the
Node Switch, determines the node address for the control
module REGARDLESS of redundancy.
SNA Number Received by the System Node Address (SNA)
Node Switch Setting
ACM from PC Number Stored in the ACM

ODD number 0 Received SNA - 1

ODD number 1 Received SNA
EVEN number 0 Received SNA
EVEN number 1 Received SNA + 1

Notes
Take note that the Node Switch will impact the control module
regardless of redundancy when no MBX is installed in the
system.
A control module will retain its node address indefinitely once
it is set. To change it, it is necessary to remove the module
from backplane power and remove the battery.
IMPORTANT
This will result in losing the configuration and shutting
down the process in a non-redundant system. There should
be no reason to attempt a change of a node address while the system
is operating. Use caution whenever removing the
control module from the rack when the process is operating!

Important When replacing CCM

Control module model numbers are very important when

selecting replacements. The replacement should be the
same processor and memory level. This MUST be
adhered to in redundant controller schemes.
Controller model numbers:
39CCM 2 8 A D N Critical Control Module

Electrical Approvals: N=note required

Design Level = current design
Revision Level = A-Z
Memory (2, 4, or 8 meg)
Processor (1=68030, 2=68040)
