The Deltapoort is the region between the center of
Dordrecht and Rotterdam, that has grown thanks
to its position next to Rotterdam, the harbor and
the highway. Politicians and regional planners have
neglected this area for decades, and the result is a
grey mix of suburbs, business parks cut through by
several large infrastructural bundles. Now most harbor
activities are moving westwards out of the area, all that
remains in the Deltapoort is a sea of ultra cheap m2’s,
occupied by low educated people. Is there any hope for
the future?

Along the existing dike network, new dikes are build. They create The infrastructure of both ‘slow systems’, like bikers and pedestrians
protected areas where countryside housing can be developed. between residences and the countryside, and the high speed distribution
network are thightly intertwined.
In the strategic plan for the year 2040, the network of
dikes and harbors is transformed into the “backbone
of everything” of the area. Along this network, a fine
mix for living, working and recreating is developed.
Employment in the make-economy is stimulated on
new twining dikes that form compartments for water
storage. Local products are packed, shipped and trucked
in a new hub that connects the local landscape with
the international traffic. Altogether this forms a living
landscape that can be seen as the new metropolitan park
of the 21st century.

LOLA landscape architects
LOLA landscape architects is an office for progressive landscape
architecture, based in Rotterdam (NL). LOLA researches and designs the
never ending development of the landscape. Its mission is to turn LOst
LAndscapes into rich, vivid and beautiful places.
Green delight
The global transition to a green economy offers a big challenge to
modern civilization. A renewed appreciation of our natural surroundings
becomes an indispensable part of our everyday lives, and leads towards
an increasing crave for ‘green delight’. From our backyards to regional
extend, we design ‘green’ urbanity, maximize the accessibility of the
landscape and enrich of our daily environment.
Phenomena
Landscapes are liquid. Urban expansion, technological progression, new
politics or cultural expressions continuously manifest new landscapes.
By recognizing, researching and designing these new spatial phenomena,
we contribute to the knowledge base of our surroundings. The goal is to
recognize new design challenges at an early stage and to propose creative
solutions. This conceptual approach creates a synergy between design
and research leading to more thorough designs, applicable researches and
contemporary solutions for dynamic landscapes.
Endless
Our every project is approached as an unique part of an endless
landscape. Each of them begins with a wide view on the horizon. From
this point of view history and trends, leads to a range of ideas. The best
idea is framed on the location into a design, that broadens the endless
landscape. The endless landscape also implies a conceptual cohesion
between all of our projects. No matter how different they are, together
they result in one conceptual landscape.

4. wetland park
A park is developed to buffer the surplus river water whilst at the same
time creating an ecological network.
