1. INTRODUCTION & PURPOSE

 It is the Policy of L&T to provide so far as is reasonably practicable safe working environment
for all of its employees including subcontractors, visitors & clients working under their area of
responsibilities in accordance with the regulations, international best practices and all other
relevant guidance.

 L&T recognizes that PGET, GET, DET, FLS & Internships are very new to construction work
environments and may not be aware of the importance of Health, Safety and welfare regimes.
Therefore it must be ensured that these persons receive the necessary instruction, guidance,
supervision and personal protective equipment to carry out their duties safely.

 All PGET, GET, DET, FLS & Interns while in training shall be informed of the EHS risks
associated with activities, Do’s & Don’ts and their responsibilities in relation to health and
safety at work. Examples of such responsibilities might include:
o Taking reasonable care of their own EHS and that of others.
o Only using work equipment they have been trained to use and using such equipment
correctly
o Always wear the appropriate PPE
o Comply with all L&T Golden safety rules & guidance

 Cluster HR department shall inform the respective Cluster EHS Head whenever any intern is
directed to a project. Cluster EHS Head shall coordinate with the respective project EHS
Heads to arrange necessary PPE and site EHS induction to the new Interns.

2. RESPONSIBILITIES OF SECTION INCHARGE / IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR

 It is the responsibility of the Section Incharge to ensure that a risk assessment is carried out
before any PGET, GET, DET, FLS & Intern commences work within the IC. Further guidance
can be sought from the project & cluster EHS Departments.

 Factors that should be taken into account when performing this assessment are:
o Inexperience & Immaturity
o Lack of health & safety risk perception
o Nature and duration of any exposure to biological, chemical or physical agents
o Inexperienced use and handling of work equipment, i.e. specific training requirements
o Physical capability

 Control measures for PGET, GET, DET, FLS & Interns while in training
o To receive a company and site specific induction prior to commencing work
o Be made risk aware
o To receive the necessary training, instruction and awareness to carry out their duties
o Receive all the necessary PPE identified at risk assessment
o All young persons to be supervised to the level appropriate to their needs
o Specific work tasks not to be carried out include are:
 No exposure to carcinogenic or hazardous substances.
 Exposure to extreme cold, heat, noise or vibration.
 Driving a mechanically propelled vehicles.
 Giving instruction signals for the operation of a lifting appliance.
 Operating any lifting appliance
 The operation of any mechanically driven machinery.
 Work on any electrical equipment.
 Work carried out at high risk when working at height
 Work carried out at high risk when working in excavations, cofferdams, tunnels
and confined spaces etc. (Class 1 Risks).

3. RESPONSIBILITIES OF PGET, GET, DET, FLS & Interns

 All PGET, GET, DET, FLS & Interns posted at projects shall
o Undergo site specific EHS induction and understand their individual responsibilities
o Adhere to the 20 L&T Golden Safety Rule
o Wear necessary PPE specific to the nature of work at all times
o Ensure their personal safety at workplace
o Execute works safely in accordance with activity EHS Risk Assessments & Safe Work
Method Statements.
o Do not carry out the specific work tasks mentioned below:
 No exposure to carcinogenic or hazardous substances.
 Exposure to extreme cold, heat, noise or vibration.
 Driving a mechanically propelled vehicles.
 Giving instruction signals for the operation of a lifting appliance.
 Operating any lifting appliance
 The operation of any mechanically driven machinery.
 Work on any electrical equipment.
