SYNOPSIS TOPIC: INDRAPRASTHA SANSKRITIK KALA KENDRA

PROJECT TYPE: CULTURAL CENTER

INTRODUCTION

A cultural center or cultural centre is an organization, building or complex that


promotes culture and arts. A cultural center is a location where there are many
venues for the "arts".

It is a location where there is a symthony, opera, theater, art galleries-paintings-


sculpture, ballet, performing arts-classical-modern-interpreative, museums.

It means a location where people from all parts of the world gather to express
elements of their heritage through the arts.

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has planned to construct a new cultural


centre, similar to India Habitat Centre (IHC) and India International Centre
(IIC), in Sector 11 of Dwarka.

To be called Indraprastha Sanskritik Kala Kendra, the centre will have five
blocks, built on 10 acres of land.

The centre will be located close to the IGI airport. It will be a green building
with an eco- friendly design.

“A lot of emphasis will be laid on creating green areas. It also plans to have
terrace gardens in the building blocks. Interlinking pedestrian courtyards will be
created for all buildings, connecting them with the natural landscape.

TOI took a sneak peek at the in-house design DDA has worked on and the
residents of Dwarka are bound to feel proud about this new project. The centre
will have dedicated sections for visual arts with provision for galleries on
contemporary art and tribal art. Dance events, puppetry shows and theatre
performances will take place at the centre of performing arts section, which will
also include a recreational area with a specialty restaurant and bar, spas, aerobic
hall and gym.

According to DDA, there is a provision of a library, a residential block and a


convention centre block, which will have an auditorium, conference halls,
exhibition space etc. Space will be allocated for open air theatres, water bodies,
lawns etc. Adequate parking space will be provided at the cent

PURPOSE FOR CHOOSING PROJECT

Delhi attracts thousands of tourists every year from all over the world due to its
rich cultural heritage.

So there is the requirement of cultural center in the city which could depict the
mythology and rich cultural heritage of the city for which it is famous for.

Moreover , public interactive spaces create a sense of togetherness ,also revival


of cultural significance is an important aspect.

Therefore to create interactive space so that people can relate themselves to the
city and its culture.

To create a environment which helps people to connect their soul to the city’s
culture and ultimately to the city.

LOCATION OF THE SITE

It is located in Dwarka sector 11 adjacent to DDA sports club, Delhi

The project is under Delhi Development Authority

The development authority has appointed L.K. Joshi, a former patron of the
Indian Habitat Centre (IHC), as a consultant

AREA OF SITE: 10 acre


The Project is proposed to have following key components:

 Centre for visual art

|Will have a contemporary art gallery, sculpture gallery, workshop area,


ancillary areas

 Centre for performing art and recreational

To comprise auditorium, rehearsal room, cinematography room, recording


room, seminar rooms, conference halls, spa, indoor sports facility, aerobic hall,
swimming pool, etc

 Administration and library block

It will have children’s library, reading room, interactive audio-video spaces


and administration offices

 Convention centre

To house an auditorium, business centre, seminar rooms, meeting room,


conference room, multipurpose room, restaurant, etc Residential area

 Will have guest rooms/ suites, kitchen, restaurant as well
