Examination Scheme 100 Marks.

Goal: This course is very useful to the students to impart knowledge about
basic concept of structural Analysis , Slope and deflection of determinate
beams, Strain energy , Analysis of Indeterminate Beams and Frame,
Analysis of Determinate and Indeterminate Plane Trusses, Plastic Analysis
of Structure, Influence line diagram , Rolling loads.

UNIT NO 1 : Fundamentals of Structure, Slope and Deflection.

UNIT NO 1 A) Basic concept of structural mechanics

Objective: Students will understand types & classification of structures based on


structural forms, concept of indeterminacy-

Outcome : Students will be able to calculate

1 Static degree of indeterminacy.

2 Kinematics degree of indeterminacy.

UNIT NO 1 B) Slope and deflection of determinate beams

Objective: Students will understand how to do the analysis of determinate beams .

Outcome : Students will be able to calculate

3 Slope and deflection of determinate beams by Macaulay’s method,

4 Slope and deflection of determinate beams by concept of moment area


method
5 Slope and deflection of determinate beams by conjugate beam method.

UNIT NO 1 C) Strain energy

Objective: Students will understand how to do the analysis of simple beams and frames.

UNIT NO 2 Analysis of Indeterminate Beams and Frames.

Objective : Students will understand about propped cantilever and fixed beams by strain
energy , analysis of continuous beams .

9 Analysis of continuous beams by three moment theorem (Clapeyron


theorem) up to three unknowns.

UNIT NO 2 B Castiglione’s second theorem, continuous beams and rectangular portal


frames

Objective: Students will understand about analysis of continuous beams and rectangular
portal frames.

Unit 4: Plastic Analysis of Structure.

Unit 4 A : Concept of plastic hinge and collapse mechanism, statical and kinematical
method of analysis.

Objective: Students will understand the concept of true and idealized stress-strain curve for
mild steel in tension, stress distribution in elastic, elasto-plastic and plastic stage. Concept of
plastic hinge and collapse mechanism, statical and kinematical method of analysis.
