Field Service Transformer Test Technician

Tasks

ABB is seeking a Field Service Transformer Test Technician to support the commissioning, monitoring, diagnosis,
maintenance, repair, and retrofit of power transformers being serviced by the ABB Transformer Remanufacturing &
Engineering Services (TRES) organization. Provide pre-job fabrication, electrical maintenance, and project preparation
activities to support operation of equipment and parts dispatched.

You’ll work as part of our Power Products team, which engineers solutions and products such as switchgear, capacitors,
distribution, and traction transformers. We’re the world’s largest supplier of transformers and recently developed the
highest-voltage direct current (DC) transformer ever.

Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following;

Provide electrical field support for installation and maintenance for power transformers including; Diagnostic &
Acceptance Testing; Doble Power Factor Testing, TTR Testing, CT testing, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance,
Control and Instrumentation checkout and calibration; and transformer monitoring devices.
- Ability to perform advanced diagnostic testing activities including Sweep Frequency Responds Analysis (SFRA) and
Dielectric Frequency Response (DFR) testing of transformers.
- Assist field crews in mechanical assembly of transformers
- Act as operator for oil processing equipment
- Perform pre-job assembly activities such as wiring control cabinets, preparing power and control assemblies, etc.
- Perform electrical maintenance of field service equipment including but not limited to:
* Electrical Generator Maintenance
* Control and instrumentation of oil processor
* LV trailer lighting
* Calibration of test equipment
* Electrical Small tool repairs
- Develop and provide traceable PM schedules and documentation for field service equipment.
- Provide emergency response as required
- Maintain accurate records of all site activities and testing including as-built drawings, test records, deviations to
specifications.

- Provide technical support for customer, subcontractors, and commissioning engineers.
- Performing installation, retrofit, commissioning and testing activities as required.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED and 5 years’ experience in field services or testing experience; OR
Associates degree in engineering field and 3 years of field services or testing experience

Preferred Qualifications:
- Competency in electrical testing through technical training program (including military, apprenticeship or journeymen)
- Knowledge of electric utility systems, especially related to transformer installation, construction, and retrofit.
- Knowledge of the design, construction and maintenance of power transformers.
- Knowledge of testing techniques and diagnostic tools related to transformer equipment, calculation of expected test
values, ability to read schematics.
- CDL license a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written skills are required in order to effective communicate plans, actions, and priorities.
- Must be able to travel 90%.
