Restore with installation CD/DVD

If you have the Windows 7 installation disc available, you can use it to perform a repair of your
computer (and attempt to fix potential issues), a restore if System Restore is enabled, or to reinstall
Windows 7.

Fix #1: Run Startup Repair or System Restore from the disc

The steps are:

1. Start the computer

2. Press and hold the F8 key


3. At Advanced Boot Options, choose Repair Your Computer

4. Press Enter

5. Select a keyboard language and click Next

6. If prompted, login with an administrative account

7. At the System Recovery Options, choose System Restore or Startup Repair (if this is
available)

8. Follow the wizard instructions to continue with any of the above

System Restore can restore your computer to an earlier date if it has been enabled and ran correctly,
while Startup Repair can attempt to fix any found errors that may prevent you from starting Windows
7

Fix #2: Use Easy Recovery Essentials

Easy Recovery Essentials can access System Restore snapshots:

1. Download Easy Recovery Essentials

2. Burn the ISO image. Follow these instructions on how to burn the bootable ISO image very
carefully, as making a bootable CD can be tricky! Alternatively, these instructions
explain how to create a bootable EasyRE recovery USB stick/drive.

3. Boot Easy Recovery Essentials

4. Select Windows 7 and click System Restore

5. Choose a restore point

6. Easy Recovery Essentials will now create a backup of your current system configuration and
begin restoring the selected snapshot

7. Once the process is complete, click Restart

8. Done! Your Windows 7 should now start again.

Restore without installation CD/DVD


If no install CD or DVD is available, you can boot into Safe Mode and run System Restore.

Fix #1: Run System Restore from Safe Mode

Before you begin, note that you can’t undo a restore if you run it from Safe Mode.

The instructions are:


1. Turn on the computer

2. Press and hold the F8 key


3. At the Advanced Boot Options screen, choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt

1. Press Enter

2. Log in as Administrator

3. When Command Prompt appears, type this command:

rstrui.exe

4. Press Enter

5. Follow the wizard instructions to continue with System Restore

Or, you can run System Restore via the System Recovery Options menu:

1. Turn the computer and press the F8 key as above


2. When you are at the Advanced Boot Options screen, choose Repair Your Computer

3. Choose a keyboard layout

4. Click Next

5. At the System Recovery Options window, choose System Restore

1. Follow the instructions to start the restore process

Fix #2: Run Startup Repair

Startup Repair can be included on your computer. You can run Startup Repair to perform a scan and
fix potential issues.

Startup Repair doesn’t restore a computer to its factory settings, but it can potentially fix errors that
prevent you from booting into the system.

The steps to access Startup Repair are:

1. Start the computer

2. Press the F8 key before the Windows 7 logo appears


3. At Advanced Boot Options, choose Repair Your Computer

4. Press Enter

5. At the System Recovery Options window, choose Startup Repair

1. Follow the instructions to start the repair process

Fix #3: Use Easy Recovery Essentials

Easy Recovery Essentials can access the snapshots created by Windows 7 System Restore. Follow
these steps to access your computer’s restore snapshots:

1. Download Easy Recovery Essentials

2. Burn the ISO image. Follow these instructions on how to burn the bootable ISO image very

Method #1: Access System Restore from Windows 7

If you can access and boot into your Windows 7 system, you can use System Restore by following
these steps:

1. Boot the computer

2. Click Start

3. Type system restore in the search bar

4. Select System Restore from the search result lists

5. Type the password of an administrator, if prompted to do so

6. Select Choose a different restore point

7. Click Next

8. Select a restore point from the list

9. Click Next

10. Click Finish

11. Click Yes to confirm the process

12. The process will now start

13. Your computer may reboot

14. Click Close when the System Restore completed successfully message appears

Method #2: Install Windows 7 again

To perform a hard reset of your computer, you can install Windows 7 again on your computer.

The steps to install Windows 7 are:

1. Insert the CD or DVD in the disc tray

2. Boot the computer

3. At the Install Windows screen, select a language, time and keyboard

4. Click Next

5. Click Install Now

1. Accept the license terms by clicking the “I accept the license terms” checkbox

2. Click Next

3. Select Custom (advanced) at the “Which type of installation do you want?” question screen

4. Follow the instructions to install Windows 7

Method #3: Use Easy Recovery Essentials

Fix "Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically" in Windows


10/8/7/Vista

Method 1. Run the sfc /scannow command (System File Checker) to


repair file system
1.Restart your computer.
2.Start pressing F8 repeatedly until the Startup Options screen is displayed.
3.Select Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
4.When Command Prompt appears, type the following command: sfc /scannow
/offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=d:\windows.
5.Press Enter and restart your computer after the process is done.

Method 2. Run chkdsk to check and fix disk errors or file system
corruption
1.Insert your Windows installation CD or disc.
2.Press any key when "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" message appears.
3.Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then
click Next.
4.Click Repair your computer.
5.Select your Windows install drive, which is usually C:\ and click Next.
6.At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on Command Prompt.
7.In the Command Line, type the following command: chkdsk C: /f /r and press Enter. Here
C: is the letter of your Windows installation drive (usually C:).

Method 3. Fix MBR using command prompt


1.Go to the step 7 in method 2, in the Command Line, enter the following
commands: bootrec /fixmbr. Followed by: bootrec /fixboot.
2.Press Enter.
Each command entered should give u a confirmation that the operation completed
successfully, if so, reboot the system and hopefully windows should boot normally. Not a
100% fix for getting to the route of the "Startup repair cannot repair this computer
automatically" problem but this should let you access your system again.

Method 4. Perform a System Restore


If you have enabled the System Restore on your computer, you can also try to fix "Startup
repair cannot repair this computer automatically" in Windows 10/8/7/Vista be performing a
system restore.

1.Go to the step 6 in method 2, in the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click
on System Restore.
2.Follow the System Restore Wizard instruction and choose the appropriate restore point.
3.Click Finish to restore the system.
These are all the possible solutions that might help to fix "Startup repair cannot repair this
computer automatically" issue in Windows 10/8/7/Vista. If none of them is useful, you are

Step 1
Since you were unable to get the option to boot in safe mode I would suggest you to follow
the steps below and check if you can get the option to boot in Safe mode.

1. Power on the computer and keep tapping F8 key.


2. In the boot device select hard drive and press enter.
3. Immediately start tapping F8 key.
4. You should see the option to boot in safe mode.
5. Once you see the option to boot in safe mode select it and press enter.

Check if you can boot to the desktop and perform a system restore from Safe mode.

Step 2

Step 3
Run chkdsk on your computer and check if it helps you fix the issue.

1. Boot the computer from Windows 7 disk.


2. To run check disk you need to restart the computer and boot into WINRE mode
(Windows Recovery Environment).
3. You will have to select repair your computer.
4. Select command prompt.
5. Type the command <tt>chkdsk C: /f /r and press enter</tt>
