The Impact of Globalization

Globalization is the integration of political, social, economic and cultural influences

that shape today’s world. It is a trend that emerged out of the need for economic growth,
prosperity, and democratic freedom from all nations. It is not just a novel idea since it
started hundreds of ages ago but it has been modified to suit the needs of today’s people.

With the advent of science and technology, the field of nursing has been thrust into
the competitive world of healthcare financing. Today’s consumers are more aware and
demanding of the service that they want to have from nurses. So nurses continually seek
out ways to improve the practice of their profession and the satisfaction of the patients they
serve. They make sure that quality care is rendered and that the demands of each individual
is addressed accordingly.

Here in the Philippines, globalization has made a big impact and caused a surge on
the country’s development in terms of the economy and healthcare. It opened up doors for
potential investors to invest and set up establishments which initiated opportunities for our
fellow countrymen seeking jobs and earning a living.

Our poster which represents our views about the influence of globalization shows the
nurse holding the globe in her arms. This implies that the nurse in order to address the
issues and concerns of globalization must also be in sync with what’s happening and must
be knowledgeable about the latest news and matters affecting the growing population of the
world. This also shows that the importance of being globally competitive in terms of being
efficient in one’s work and in giving quality care.

The Philippine flag represents the proud Filipino people who are doing their best, not
only in the field of healthcare but also in other specializations, to show the world what our
country has to offer. This represents the nation’s desire to stand as one with the global
community and be a part in international trade. From a nurse’s point of view, this flag
signifies the passion to uplift the nation from poverty through dedication, hard work and the
enduring commitment to serve the Filipinos.

The globe represents the world and the people linked around it represents the
different people from each country. The linked hands show that in order for a nation to
prosper and progress it must be united with one another. With globalization opening up
countless possibilities especially for underdeveloped nations, unity and cooperation is a
must. Also, it will help underdeveloped countries raise it's standard of living as well as
raising the standard of living in the developed countries. The different colors represent the
different races that nurses render their nursing care. Regardless of the race, color, culture
or socioeconomic status that a person has, it doesn’t stop us nurses from caring for them
and giving them the best that we have to offer.

Globalization being controversial itself has both positive and negative effects. The
sun represents the positive effects that globalization has brought to the world. It
overshadows and overpowers the negative ones. The rays show how encompassing
globalization can be. There isn’t a corner of the world untouched by globalization. It has
made people closer with one another. With globalization, it has brought about broader
communication lines, expanded import and export trade, prospered local and international
markets, developed new things especially in the field of science, technology, healthcare and
economics and promoted health especially in the effective treatment of highly contagious
diseases. It has helped nurses become more aware of emerging and re-emerging diseases
and how to combat it. It has helped nurses emphasize more on quality care, cost
effectiveness and promotion of health.

The color blue is a universal color. Since globalization and the need for nursing is
universal, we chose this to represent our background. Also, blue in many diverse cultures is
significant in religious beliefs, brings peace, or is believed to keep the bad spirits away. As
part of today’s new generation nurses, we should be able to recognize the effects
globalization and what its contribution is to our lives. Just like the color blue, globalization is
significant. It has made drastic changes affecting all nations and its people. It will bring
peace since it promotes unity and brotherhood among the different nations regardless of
race, creed or background. Optimists and some economists believe that the positive effects
of globalization will keep away its negative ones. Nurses need to be aware of these effects
in order to incorporate these positive aspects into the nursing profession and try as possible
to minimize the negative aspects of globalization in their own ways.

This poster in its whole entity conveys the message that globalization is without a
doubt changing the lives of people not only here but everywhere else. It implies how
globalization propels a nation and its people towards growth and progression. It
encompasses and affects all aspects of society, both the natural and applied sciences. In
this era, technology has been the harbinger of globalization and with new innovations,
changes especially in different fields like nursing are expected. That’s why the nursing of
today continues to evolve both as an art and science to keep up with the demands of
globalization.
