Practical Research 2

Introduction

The continuous arising prices of goods in the Philippine market is one of the causes of
poverty in our country. Due to the economic crisis that our country is currently facing, the
researchers did an experimental study regarding the cheaper type of floorwax .

As we all know, Bananas are consumed worldwide. Some people find it hard to dispose
Banana peel wastes. There have been studies about Banana peelings as fertilizer, shoe polish,
mosquito repellent, face scrub, feedstock and tea due to some nutrients that it may contain such
as protein, Vitamin A & B, potassium, calcium and iron. To add the mentioned uses of Banana
peelings, we conducted a study on Banana peel as an alternative source of floorwax and was
compared with a commercial product (which may contain chemical substances) in terms of
shininess, friction, price and safety.

Background of the Study

Floor Wax is a wax- based preparation used to finish and polish floors and has been used
for centuries. It is made from artificial and synthetic materials. It can be used in concrete,
ceramic and vinyl kinds of flooring.

According to Esmeralda Lee, floorwax is a liquid mixture containing water, polymer

emulsions, film formers, preservatives and modifiers. These ingredients are very expensive and
may harm our health and the environment.

This research aims to aid the household users of floor wax into using a much safer,
natural, organic and especially cheaper way of shining their floors. It is not only cheap and
natural but very efficient, it uses materials available at home, and household users may make
their own. .

Objectives

The researchers aim to:

1. Know if the Banana peel can be use as an alternative source of floorwax.

2. Know which of the two floorwax is better to use, the organic or the chemical- based
floorwax.
3. Know what are the benefits of using organic floorwax from Banana peel.

By this, we may able to help people to lessen their expenses, to warn them of harmful
ingredients that their floorwax may contain and to help the environment by eliminating Banana
peel wastes.
General Question

How effective is the organic floorwax compared to chemical- based floorwax in terms of
qualiy, texture and smell?

 Sub- questions
1. What are the advantages of using Banana peel floorwax?
2. What are the difference between the two kinds of floorwax?
3. What are the hazards and risks of making or using the two kinds of floorwax?
