In any aspect of business, it’s already became vital to establish IT based work flows in any
company. As one of modern Transport companies, Derba Transport plc. also laid its foundation
on IT based organization work flows. Beginning from smallest task like lettering up to transport
monitoring, all tasks are integrated to IT based management system.

1. Computer hardware platforms

Since its recently established company, all of the computers in the company are recently
bought and latest. We have around 68 Dell OptiPlex 780 & 790 work stations dual core and I3,
12 Toshiba (I3-I5) laptops and 3 dell power edge and HP proliant servers.

 2. Operating system platform
We are using 2 types of operating systems in the company. For client computers and
laptops we use Window 7 ultimate edition operating systems. We also use Window server
2008 R2 operating system for our servers.

3. Enterprise software application

3.1. Microsoft office

In all client computers we use Microsoft office 2007 or 2010 software for

. word processing,

. excel spreadsheet

. emailing purposes.

3.2. Kaspersky Internet security

We also have Kaspersky 2012 anti-virus for :-

.virus and maleware protection

. and internet security .

3.3. Fleet logix

As transport management system we use software called Fleet logix which made in
South Africa. The software controls the entire transport process beginning from order to
delivery. We also use this software to get some reports about what have been done by day,
month or year.
3.4. Dynafleet

For vehicle tracking, we are on the verge of implementing a system called Dynafleet
which is made in Volvo Company, Sweden. Since all of our vehicles are Volvo made , they
already have a built GPS/GPRS transmitter. The transmitter send information to Dynafleet
server and with the help of this software, we can track the location of all vehicles we have. It
also helps to monitor fuel consumption, km coverage and routes of vehicles.

3.5. Peachtree Quantum 2010

For Financial management purposes, we currently use Peachtree 2010 software. This
software will control the overall financial work in the company.

4. Data management and storage

Since we made all of our works computerized its vital to have data management plans.
There for we dedicate one File server with 2TB (4 * 500 Gb) Hard disk. we uses this server for
file sharing via the network and for storage purpose .we configure the server with raid 5 in
order to protect it from data lost just in case if one of the four hard disk fails. We also have
another 500 GB external hard disk as external backup storage.
 5. Networking/ telecommunication platform

5.1. Network platform

DT have a big network infrastructure which connect main office to branch offices. In the
main office we have currently more than 50 computers connected over the network. We
have 24 port switches in each floor of the main building. our branch offices have also a
small local area networks and are connected with the main branch via vpn (virtual private
network). We also have wireless networks in the main office building for laptop users and
guests

5.2. Telecommunication platform

We have more than 30 telephones In the building and all are connected via Panasonic TDA 100
PBX.
 6. Internet Platform
As I mentioned above we are trying to use vehicle tracking system which will need a lot
of bandwidth connection to the server found in Sweden. There for we rented a fiber line ADSL
10mb/s bandwidth internet connection From Ethiotelecom.
