Challenge:
Indian business environment is witnessing a transformation like never before. Multiple national
initiatives from the Govt. of India like Digital India, Start-up India and Stand-up India are
paving the path for the Start-up and SMEs to play a bigger role in the economic growth. Prime
Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India a hub for Start-up companies is reflected in the
Start-up India Action plan through which Government wants to play the supporting role of an
enabler. The positive outlook of Govt. and the intention is genuinely laudable but many factors
like the ease of doing business, taxation, access to capital and capability development hold the
key to a successful ecosystem. Most small business in India are setup by first generation
entrepreneurs. They often have a product or service idea and some zest to work hard.
However, the limited market access namely capital access, brand promotions solutions,
marketing support, logistics & sales support, and information & communication
technology (ICT) support stall the zeal to take the enterprise to the next level. So there are
both opportunities to explore and challenges to overcome for any Start-up and SME to actually
contribute to the India Growth. The Government recognizes that a strategy focussed on
supporting fast growing and innovative MSMEs will reap disproportionately large
dividends in terms of economic growth and employment creation.

THE NEED FOR THIS PROGRAMME

In recent years India has witnessed a rapid growth in numbers of new business and first
generation entrepreneurs. With the entrepreneurial mindset increasing coupled with global
business opportunities and blurred the differences between a simple Start-up and new SME.
SMEs and Start-ups both face similar challenges like access to capital and policy support and
both look to attract investment to unlock the business value. Both businesses need to
understand that today the competition is not between big and small but fast and slow. MSMEs
contribution is not only in terms of output, employment, income, investment or exports
but also in terms of the more qualitative indicators such as synergy they promote with
large industry, their contribution towards balanced regional growth, participation in
nurturing entrepreneurial spirit, innovation & in providing a nationwide pool of skilled
& trained manpower. So it is very critical that business leaders from Start-ups and SMEs share
a platform (workshop) where they can interact, involve, engage with experts and explore the
common opportunities together. The programme is designed to provide invaluable insights
from various business areas to enable these organizations realize their true potential and be the
major player in Indian growth story.

KEY BENEFITS TO START-UPS, MSMES & CORPORATE HOUSES

nationally.
2) Opportunities for Enterprise development.
3) Innovative ideas of Accessing Finance.
4) Networking opportunity with stakeholders.

6) Benchmarking against experienced and renowned National, International Enterprises
through interactive panel discussions.
7) Opportunities for Brand building of products.

9) Shared learning through the success stories of various renowned enterprises
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE OF “MSMES & START-UPS 2016 REVOLUTION -
DRIVING INDIA GROWTH”

India is emerging as an important destination for international MSMEs looking for new business
and countries are looking to emulate the Indian MSME growth model. With globalization and
borderless business coupled with evolution of digital environment India needs a dynamic and
self-sustaining culture of innovation and cluster based approach for the development of MSMEs.
India is in its way to become the largest start-up ecosystem in the world in next few years. A
great deal of success can be attributed to the entrepreneurial ability of Indians which is
continually being demonstrated by Indian Nationals & NRIs around the world.

In 2014, venture capital funding of Indian start-ups touched $ 3.86 billion, a phemonal increase
of 261 percent from 2013, according to research firm PrivCo. Almost 3100 start-ups, 800 of
which are technology related attracting a mind boggling investment in 2014 shows the
promising start-up ecosystem in India. India is one of the fastest-growing and third largest start-
up ecosystems in the world, after the US and the UK, says the India start-up report 2014 by
NASSCOM.
It is really heartening to see the Government's push for start-ups and the policy framework
being transformed to offer more support to new business. In spite all these road to build
successful start-ups in India, is still filled with multiple roadblocks. While the success of some
Start-ups / SMEs show the potential for growth the majority of new business perform less than
expected and many fail to survive in long run. At this juncture, the solution at the ground
level will be to strengthen the MSME sector at our country and making it self-sufficient
and investor friendly. Industry Chambers, forums and government agencies are keen to
support MSMEs to overcome many barriers that business face, and how MSMEs can be
assisted in bidding for work to ensure that they are not unduly discriminated against in
the procurement process.
As India embarks on a new wave economy, it adopts an MSME opportunity framework that will
provide the necessary impetus to seize the opportunities created by –

1) Emergence of domestic demand led by significant increases in spending and consumerism;

2) Increase in spending in infrastructure and defence sectors
3) Increase in foreign direct investments in existing and emerging businesses in India;
4) Foreign companies investing in India for their global market requirements (Make in India);
and
5) The double digit growth expected in numerous business sectors.

OBJECTIVE

The primary objective is to address the challenges and offer practical solutions so that the new
SMEs and Evolving Start-Ups can receive maximum benefits of the recent initiatives while
improving their performance to a new level. The programme also aims to create a platform to

robust, sustainable and profitable Futuristic Businesses Models.
