CALL TO ORDER
Stephanie called the Area X Leadership Team Meeting to order at 8:45
am on Saturday, May 19, 2018. New chapter presidents were introduced
to the Area X Leadership Team:

Xye Sanders moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as
e-mailed. Gayle Case seconded the motion.

Area X Director – Stephanie Hurst

DKG California 2018 Convention: Stephanie congratulated:

● Eta Chi for their recognition by California State DKG of their
Chapter Newsletter the ​Rambling Rose​.
● Sally DuBois and Dana Maybury for the awards they received for
their award winning artwork at the Convention.
● Lynette Lange for her contribution to the Celebration of Life at the
convention.
● Kay Beeson for all her work organizing ​the hostesses for​ the
Inter-​sessions during the convention.
● Area X Leadership Team positions available

● Dates for Area X Leadership Team meeting were determined as

COMMITTEE REPORTS

AWARDS and RECOGNITIONS – Dana Maybury

Dana reviewed the Award Application Information Sheet that was Emailed to the
Board along with a list of the awards, scholarships and grants available to the
membership. She encouraged members to apply for these awards and share the
information with the chapter members. She reminded members that there are
awards and scholarships from International, California State, Area X, and
chapters available.
A discussion took place regarding Area X stipends for members and presidents
to attend DKG conventions. After some discussion the following motion was
proposed:

Motion: ​ t​o award $100.00 in even numbered years to incoming chapter

presidents to attend the President's Training at the California State Convention
(M/S/P)

Legislation – Xye Sanders

Xye reported that the California State DKG Legislation Committee has a Bill
Evaluator Program where any member may evaluate a bill that has been

introduced in the California Legislature regarding education in California. She

invited any member who is interested to contact her for more information.

LIFE – Suzan Reiner

● Suzan reported that LIFE continues to give awards to support special
projects related to learning and literacy in California. Suzan shared that
grants totaling $17,000 were awarded this year and that all applications for
awards were accepted. Suzan noted that LIFE recently awarded a grant
to a school in Escondido.
● Suzan noted that Helene Going Green awards are only for DKG members,
but other grants through LIFE can be awarded to non-members. LIFE
also provides support via Helen Going Green funds for environmentally
themed grants to schools.

Membership & Area X Celebration–​ ​Lynette Lange

● Lynette reported that the 2018 Area X Celebration was a great success.
The 2019 Area X Celebration will take place on March 16, 2019 at the
same location with the same meal selection. Members expressed support
of the luncheon menu over the breakfast menu.
● Lynette noted that there have been proposed changes in the DKG
International Rules regarding membership eligibility which will be
discussed and voted upon at the 2019 International Convention in Austin,
TX.
● Lynette suggested Area X might consider investigating the possibility of
forming a new chapter in San Marcos
● Janet Crossett made the following motion:

Motion:​ ​to form an ad hoc committee to investigate the recruitment of

new members​ for a new chapter (M/S/P):

CHAPTER REPORTS

Eta Chi – Gayle Case

Gayle reported that Eta Chi's Dr. Seuss Birthday Party was a great success.
Gayle also noted that Eta Chi is experimenting with “Out of Meeting Experiences”
where members gather a variety of local establishments. ​Recently they had a
speaker from the MOXIE Theater and will be attending a play there soon. ​ Eta
Chi presented its Outstanding Future Educator Award at the school site she was
working. It was a great success.

Eta Eta- Karen Johnson

Karen reported that her chapter numbers are small, but they continue to meet
five times per year to celebrate each other and enjoy each other's company.

Zeta Pi - Sally du Bois

Sally described the organization of committee in Zeta Pi to the Area X leadership
Team. The seven chapter committees each have four members who have
volunteered for the particular committee. Each committee is responsible for
organizing and hosting one meeting per year.
Sally noted that because each committee member has personally selected the
committee they would like to serve on, they have a personal commitment to that
committee and the meeting that they will host.

Announcements

The next Area X Board Meeting will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018
beginning at ​12:30 ​at Marie Callender’s​ ​Restaurant in Escondido, CA. ​The
President/Treasurer training will be held that morning: breakfast 8am, training
begins promptly at 8:30am.
