LOCATION: Montréal

This aestheticians salon is designed for a

small company working in the Montréal’s
Griffintown neighborhood. The challenge
with this space was the massive concrete
column which intersected the middle
of the salon. This became the focus of
the design.Displays for the nail polish
and areas for makeup are built into the
sculptural form. The rest of the space
is composed of a reception desk and
manicure table. These are made from
laser cut and folded steel. The rest of the
space is covered with wood panelling to
give it warmth.

I researched the relationship between which often stem from a confusion of

the Western culture’s historical concept
of space and our perceptions of being
in the world. My design engages the
experiential and existential value
of emplaced narratives within the
landscape. I offset this with Canadian
and indigenous land claim issues
differing concepts of space. My design
for an artist’s residency engages
both ideas of spatiality and brings
together artists from indegenous and
non-indegenous backrounds to find a
common ground of understanding in
our literal common ground.

 PARKING ISLAND OASIS

TYPE: Landscape, built

LOCATION: Waterloo ON

This project regenerates a local parking lot
island into a space to barbecue and relax.
The existing site is mostly covered in grass
and mulberry trees; however at one end
there was a banal patch of brick pavers.
With this added functionality on the site,
the hope is that the grass area underneath
the mulberry trees now has a functional
support as a picnic space.

The concept was to reuse the existing EXISTING PLAN

bricks and reconfigure them into a bench
and fire pit. Then, native plants from the
area were transplanted onto the site to
make a garden around the seating area.
