I derive great satisfaction in releasing the fifth issue of Optimus. I compliment Prof. Bholanath
Dutta for his hard-work in successfully bringing out five consecutive quarterly e-bulletin “Optimus”

Message from Chief Editor

It is a great pleasure to present the fifth issue of Optimus. In this, we have incorporated the
detailed activities of the MBA and MCA departments, faculty and students as usual along with
photo galleries of guest lecture, industrial visit, co-curricular and Extra- curricular activities.

1. 10-26.07.2010: All faculty members of the department deputed for valuation of answer script to VTU Valuation centre-
JSS Academy of Technology, Bangalore.
2. 02.08.2010: MBA- III Semester classes commenced with a day-long re-orientation programme.

3. 03.08.2010: Aptitude Test for students opted for finance specialization held. Result announced on the same day.

4. 03.09.2010: MBA-III Semester students went for an Industrial Visit to L&T Komatsu.

5. 06-09.09.2010: First Internal Test for MBA-III Semester students was conducted.

6. 20.09.2010: MBA- I Semester classes commenced with a day-long orientation programme.

7. 21-24.09.2010: Foundation programme for MBA- I Semester held.

8. Prof. Sumitha left MBA Department in July and Prof. Preety Vyasmba and Prof. Geetha Sineni joined the MBA
Department in Aug 2010.

Career Guidance & Placement Bureau

1. 28.08.2010: Life Skills programme for MBA, MCA and BE final year students commenced under the
guidance and supervision of Prof. K Ravi, Director- Career Guidance and Placement Bureau spanning over the
three months. Prof. Bholanath Dutta, Dr. B Rose Kavitha and Prof. Nagabhushan are conducting the Training
programme for MBA Department.

GUEST LECTURE ORGANIZED

1. 07.08.2010: Prof. UK Athikkal conducted a day-long workshop on ‘NLP and Managing Self” for MBA- III
Semester Students.

2. 14.08.2010: Col. M Ravi, Joint Director, Defence Institute of Quality Assurance delivered a lecture on “Six
Sigma” for MBA- III Semester students.

3. 26.08.2010: Prof. Sunderajan, OD- Consultant, delivered a lecture on “Industrial Disputes” for MBA- III
Semester students.

4. 08.09.2010: Mr. R Balachandran, Management Consultant, Melbourne, Australia deliver a guest lecture to
all MBA Students of CMR Group of Institutions. The programme was organized in association with Bangalore
Management Association.

5. 17.09.2010: Mr. Balaji Rao, Vice President, eTouchstone, delivered a lecture on “Investment Management”.

1. Dr. Col (Retd.) Mukesh Kumar V and Prof. Bholanath Dutta: Presented a paper jointly on “Employment
and Employability with special reference to management students” in a National Conference “Curriculum
Design in Changing Context in Higher Education” at CMR IMS (Autonomous) on 5-6 Aug 2010.

2. Dr. B Rose Kavitha: Presented a paper “ Student development needs – A Study On Interpersonal Spectrum
For Teachers Today ” for a National Conference on “Curriculum Design in Changing Context in Higher
Education” at CMR IMS (Autonomous) on 5-6 Aug 2010

3. Dr. Col (Retd.) Mukesh Kumar V and Prof. Bholanath Dutta: Jointly presented a paper titled “HRM:
From Reactive Posture to Proactive Role” in a National level HR conference “Knowledge Utsav” in Jain
University on 26.08.2010.

4. Dr. Col. (Retd.) Mukesh Kumar V and Prof. Bholanath Dutta: Paper titled “Cross-cultural marketing”
has been accepted for a National Conference at Saintgits Institute of Technology, Kerala scheduled to be held
on 21-22 Nov 2010.

5. Dr. B Rose Kavitha: Presented a paper for a National Seminar on “Social Entrepreneurship- An
experimental Approach to Learning and Value Systems of Social Entrepreneurs in India” on 12th and 13th Aug
2010 for Karnataka Association of Professional Social Workers, Bangalore, Department of Social Work,
Bangalore University.

6. Dr. Col. (Retd.) Mukesh Kumar V and Prof. Bholanath Dutta: Paper titled “ Relevance of
Entrepreneurship in Technical and Management Education” accepted for an International Conference in DY
Patil University, Mumbai, scheduled to be held on 27.12.2010.

in the month of Sep’2010.

Dr. Col.(Retd.) Mukesh Kumar V: Attended a Workshop on “IBM SPSS” at IBM Innovation Centre on
15.09.2010 for conducting certification programme for faculty and students on SPSS.

FLASH NEWS
Department of MBA has got approval for “Research Centre” from Visvesvaraya Technological University in the
Academic Year 2010-2011. Three research Scholars already registered with the Centre. Research Scholars appeared
for Entrance Exam on 26.09.2010.

2. 19.09.2010: MBA- III Semester students participated in ROTA-FEST 2010 held at CMR Law College
(OMBR Layout) and following students won the prize:

1. One of our faculty, Mr. Sudipto Das, was deputed as Deputy Chief Superintendent of Examinations at Bangalore
College of Engineering and Technology, Chandapura during June-July 2010.
2. 14.06.10-15.07.2010: All faculty members of the Department deputed for valuation of answer script to VTU

1. 28.08.2010 to 07.10.2010: Life Skills programme for MBA, MCA and BE final year students commenced

“Database Management System” for MCA- III Semester students.

3. 28.08.2010: Mr. Kamal Paul Software Engineer at Value Bound.com delivered a lecture on “Web
Application Development” for MCA- V Semester students.

participated in All India Hockey Tournament Semifinals at Kovilapatti (12 – 20 May 2010).

1. 10 students participated in the “Ashtra” Fest at K.L.E. Society’s S. Nijalingappa College on 27th Aug 2010.
Dinesh & Shabarish (V Semester) won 3rd place in the IT Quiz.
2. Dilip Choudhary (III Semester) participated in the “Best Manager” event in the “Gateways - 2010” Fest at
Christ University on 3rd Sep 2010
3. 16 students of V Semester attended the National Workshop on Business Intelligence at New Horizon
College of Engineering on 16th & 17th Sep 2010.
