Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 2

Introduction
Hello!

My current main is Mythrenathen-WyrmrestAccord. I’ve
been a roleplayer in the WoW community for roughly five
years, cycling back and forth from casual RPer to officer in
RP medium-heavy guilds (usually dependant on how
recently the raid tier dropped).

Over the years I’ve used a few different RP addons - MRP,
TRP2, GHI, TRP3, and TRP3 Extended - and the extra detail
you can add on TRP3 has always made it my go-to choice
for a helper addon. My guilty pleasure while /afking in
cities is reading everyone’s character profiles, and I always
find it interesting how people personalize the addon to
suit their character.

I’d like to stress that there is no set right or wrong way to
fill out a character profile. You can get as detailed as you
like, or leave it up to the reader’s interpretation. Some
people like reading your entire history, and others prefer
to have it roleplayed out. There may be a few notes or
suggestions in this guide to help those who’d like it, but
by all means, feel free to RP however you’d like! This
guide is for use by those wanting to learn more about
TRP3 and what this addon can do for their RP.

DISCLAIMER: I do not own any rights to TotalRP3 or any RP helper addon, nor did I do any of
the hard work of developing these addons. I just wrote this guide.

Where to Start
TRP3 has a lot of features that other RP helper addons do not, and it’s easy to become
overwhelmed or discouraged.

The good news is that there is no right or wrong way to fill out a profile, and there is no
penalty for leaving sections blank.

Here are a few things that are a good idea if you’re starting out for the first time or creating a
new character:

1. Familiarize yourself with how to get to the bulk of the addon, the Profile Home.
You can access your TRP3 Profile either by clicking the small on your mini map, or by

targeting a character and clicking the to bring up their character page. (You can also target
your own character and click the profile scroll.)

2. Fill in your character’s Names and Titles and basic Directory Information on the (Your
Character Name Here) tab.

3. Create an About section.

Most RP helper addons have a format like Template 3.
Remember that you can be as detailed or as sparse as you would like! Don’t worry about setting
up all the bells and whistles right away.

4. Decide on your character’s Currently.

This will help other RPers approach you for RP!

You can always go back through later and edit things or add more detail once you
become more familiar with the addon or your character!

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 5

How to Download and Install

TRP3 has made it to curse.com! That makes it really easy to get started, simply click here to go to the
curse download page. If you use curse client or already know how to download and install your addons,
go ahead and skip to learning the basics of TRP3.

(Please note: I was too lazy to redo all my pictures of downloading and installation, and therefore these
pictures say TRP2. If you click the link above, it will take you to the correct TRP3 page. Installation is the
same, no matter what addon you use!)

For those who are a bit more unsure, here are the steps to download TRP3 on a PC. I have no idea how
to work a Mac, so you're on your own if you play on one of those, sorry.

1. Go to curse.com and type in 'total RP3', or click the link at the top of this post.
2. Click the orange 'Download' button on the left side. You should get a popup after 5sec or so that asks if
you want to open or save.

Go ahead and open with WinRAR.exe.

3. WinRAR will bring up a new window. Shift+click to select all the TRP3 folders. Right click when they're
selected, and choose 'Extract to the specified folder'.
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 6

4. Here's where your installation might differ. My WoW folders are in my C: drive under 'Program Files
(x86)'. Some are simply under 'Program Files'. You'll have to find where your WoW folder is located.

When you extract the TRP3 folders, they need to go into your World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons folder.

5. Hit OK, and the addon has been installed. You'll have to close completely out of WoW if you have it
open, so that it can restart with the addon active.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 7

TRP3 Basic Bar

When you load up TRP3, you will see a small menu that looks like this:

For the purposes of this guide, we will be calling it the “Basic Bar”.

You can move the basic bar wherever you’d like by holding the left-click button on the “Total RP 3” and
dragging it across your screen.

On the bar are four different buttons that allow you to switch between different settings
quickly and easily.

Player Status: Changes your status from normal/AFK/Do Not Disturb.

Default is Normal.
Left-Click to switch to Away/AFK mode.
Right-Click to switch to Do Not Disturb/DnD mode.

IC/OOC Status: Changes your character’s status from In-Character to Out-of-Character.

Default is IC.
Left-Click to switch to OOC.
Right-Click to switch to a different profile. (Profiles explained later in TRP3 Profile>Character>Profiles)

NPC Speeches: Allows you to quickly create dialogue from NPCs.

NPC Name: The NPC character who will be saying/emoting the text.
Channel Drop-Down: What kind of text it is (/say, /yell, /emote, etc)
Message: The text you want to be said.

Language: Allows you to quickly change between in-game languages.

Note: It will only allow you to use the default in-game languages for your character’s race. You will need a separate addon such
as Tongues or your imagination if you want to speak Furbolg for example.
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 8

Character (Target) Bar

The Character (Target) Bar appears when you have a player targeted that has a roleplay addon
installed. Depending on which addon they have, different buttons will appear.

Profile with TRP3 installed

Profile with another RP addon installed

Along the top you’ll see the character’s IC name. Left-clicking the name will allow you to drag
the box around your screen.

Under that you’ll see four or five boxes with different icons.

Character Page: Opens up their character profile.

A yellow ! means that it has been updated since the last time you’ve seen them.

Play Character Theme: Allows you to listen to in-game music they’ve chosen for their character’s theme song.
TRP3 Only
Left-Click to play music.
Right-Click to stop music.
They must have TRP3 installed and have selected a theme for this button to show.

Relationship: Allows you to select how your character feels about their character.
Options include: None, Unfriendly, Neutral, Business, Friendly, Love, Family.
Selecting a relationship will put a colored outline around their mouse over tooltip, and can keep their profiles from being purged
from your directory.
Recommended to set a relationship, even neutral, if you do walk-up or group RP - you will at least remember if your character
has interacted with them in the past.

Flag as Mature: Allows you to flag their profile to be hidden

If you find their profile offensive, you can flag it and it will not show up to you anymore.
More options about mature profiles are in the Settings>Register Settings>Mature Profiles Tab.

Ignore Player: Allows you to /ignore them with a click of the button.
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 9

TRP3 users will also have circles near the bottom of their Character (Target) Bar. These
circles are called “At First Glance”.

Mousing over them will bring up icons and text that allows you to get a quick look at their
character without reading their entire profile.

Good things to note in your character’s “At First Glance” bubbles are noticeable injuries, smells,
armor insignia - things that someone would notice, well….at a first glance!

You can find more information regarding the “At First Glance” bubbles at
Character>Character>Miscellaneous>At First Glance.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 10

Character Mouseover Tooltip

The mouseover tooltip is the box that shows when you hover your mouse over
characters.

Only characters that have an RP addon installed will show a tooltip.

Names, titles, race, class, the class color, and the icon are all located in the Directory
Information of the Character Characteristics tab.

Both Currently sections are located on the Miscellaneous tab of the Character profile, along with
the IC/OOC guild member dropdown menu.

In the UPPER RIGHT corner of the tooltip is a small symbol regarding RP experience /
availability. These can be changed from the Status tab (Rookie/Volunteer and IC/OOC), on the
TRP3 Basic Bar (IC/OOC and Normal/Busy/Away), or by using / commands like /away or /dnd.

Rookie: You are new to RPing (either in-game or in general) and would appreciate tips.

Volunteer: You are experienced at RPing, and do not mind helping out new or inexperienced RPers.
Means you are currently OOC.
Means you are away.

Means you do not wish to be disturbed.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 11

TRP3 Profile
You can access your TRP3 Profile either by clicking the small on your mini map, or by

targeting a character and clicking the to bring up their character page. (You can also
target your own character and click the profile scroll.)

Profile Home

The TRP3 Profile Home is where you’ll find the main information regarding the addon.

Over on the LEFT side of the profile home you’ll find tabs that take you to the other sections of
the addon - Character, Companions, D
 irectory, and Settings.

Towards the BOTTOM you’ll find three more tabs - What’s New, About Total RP 3, and More
modules. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with these tabs, as the addon is constantly
being updated.
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 12

Status
The character status box on the TRP3 PROFILE HOME allows you to give information as
to what kind of RPer you are.

Character Status: Select between In-Character and Out-of-Character

Can also be switched from the TRP3 Basic Bar

Roleplayer Status: Select between Rookie, Experienced, and Volunteer Roleplayer.

Rookie: You are new to RPing (either in-game or in general) and would appreciate tips.
Experienced: You know your way around RPing (either in-game, or in general).

Volunteer: You are experienced at RPing, and do not mind helping out new or inexperienced RPers.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 13

Character (Side Tab)

Profiles (Character Side Tab)

Under the Character Tab, the Profiles Tab allows you to quickly swap between different characters, all while on the
same toon. Ever wish you could go from being one character to a different one, without even toon hopping? This is
how you do it!

When you first log onto a character with TRP3 running, it will make a new profile by default.

Clicking one of the profiles listed will automatically select that profile to use as your active profile. You can easily use
the same profile on two separate characters (dual-classing Priestess of Elune that you RP with both your hunter and
your priest? Can do!). The number of WoW characters currently using that profile is listed under each profile.

Note: Profiles must be your current active profile if you wish to edit them. You cannot
edit a different character’s profile without making it active on your current character. If you
are not careful, someone might see you running around with Billy Bob’s profile on Jane
because you were editing Billy Bob’s but forgot to swap them back when you were done!
Stealth is your friend while editing alts’ profiles!

The Red Arrows on the RIGHT side of each profile name gives you a few options - Rename, Duplicate, Delete
Profile. Duplicate allows you to make an exact copy of the selected profile, which you can then go in and change a
few details (one for your character’s normal profile, and one for when they are undercover for example). The

at the top lets you start a new profile from scratch.
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 14

(Your Character Name Here) Character Side Tab

Note: My character’s name is Mythrenathen, and therefore that is what my tab is called. Your
character’s profile tab will be their name.

Your Character Tab on the LEFT side of the Profile Home is where the bulk of your
information resides. When someone clicks on your profile, this is what they see.

At the top of the character profile are three tabs - Characteristics, About, and Miscellaneous.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 15

Characteristics (Top Tab)

The characteristics tab has the basic directory information about your character - their name,
their race, their height, etc. Some of this information will be shown on the Character Mouseover
Tooltip.

Names and Titles

Names and Titles are fairly self-explanatory. These will be displayed in your Character
Mouseover Tooltip.

To the LEFT of the name boxes is an icon. Left-clicking will allow you to select an icon for
your character.

Title: If your character has any formal titles (Lord/Lady, Knight, High Priestess, etc) that is
used when addressing them in speech.
These titles may be displayed in the chat frames (Settings>Chat Settings>Chat main
settings>Naming Method).
Note: Try to avoid overly flowery titles here. If they wouldn’t be referred to as “The Highest
Lord of the Fifteen Cities, Extravagance Made Flesh, the Most Beautiful Blah Blah Blah,
Chloe Smith Junior III” in regular speech, don’t put it here! It bogs down chat frames if your
character has an obscenely long title.

Full Title: You can list their full titles here.

Leaving a section intentionally blank will hide it on the directory.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 16

Characteristics

Directory Information

Directory information gives basic information about your character’s race, profession,
height, weight, etc.

Certain things, such as Race, Class, and the Class Color will be displayed on your
Character Mouseover Tooltip.

Leaving a section intentionally blank will hide it on the directory.

Clicking on the box to the RIGHT of “Eye color” will allow you to choose exactly what shade of
green your character’s eyes are.

Clicking on the box to the RIGHT of “Class” will allow you to select your character’s class.
Note: This is the color used for your character’s name in the tooltip mouseover. The default
is your WoW class color.

Clicking on the houses to the RIGHT of Residence or Birthplace will allow you to assign
an in-game location to these spots.
Left-click: assigns the current location
Right-click: discards the position
Note: While it is a nice effect to say that your character lives in the 2nd house on the left,
please remember that others may or may not agree that this particular house in-game is it.
Sharing is caring, especially when about to start a territory war OOCly.

Note: When in doubt about your races’ height or weight, general descriptions go a long way.
Some guides might say a night elf is 6’5” on average, others place them well above 7’. Age is
also relative to some races.
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 17

Additional Information

The Additional Information section allows you to tailor the directory to your character.

There are multiple options to choose from, including House name, nickname, motto,
physiognomy, piercings, and tattoos.

You may also select your own information to display, along with an icon to represent it to the
LEFT.

Leaving this section intentionally blank will hide it on the directory. You may choose as
many or as few additional information blocks as you’d like.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 18

Personality Traits

Personality traits gives others a general sense of how your character will act if interacted
with.

There are multiple different options to choose from, including:

Chaotic / Lawful - Do they follow rules/laws

Forgiving / Vindictive - Do they forgive others
Altruistic / Selfish - Will they make sacrifices for others or be selfish
Truthful / Deceitful - Do they tell the truth or lie
Gentle / Brutal - Are they more likely to comfort you or bash your skull in
Superstitious / Rational - Do they believe in logic or religion/superstition
Cautious / Impulsive - Are they more likely to think a plan through, or just rush in
Ascetic / Bon Vivant - Are they more likely to live simply, or appreciate the finer things
Renegade / Paragon - Do they hold themselves up for example, or do they do things on their own
Valorous / Spineless - Are they brave or cowardly

You can also create your own, if you’d like.

Choose which you’d like to use from the drop-down menu. Add points using the red to either
side. For example, if your character would never ever in a million years forgive someone, add
points to the vindictive side.
Note: Remember that these are generalizations. There might be situations that you character
WOULD lie, but if for the most part they tell the truth, put your points on the truthful side.

Leaving this section intentionally blank will hide it on the directory. You may choose as
many or as few personality traits as you’d like.
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 19

About (Top Tab)

The About Tab is where you can put a detailed description about your character.

There are three different template set ups that you can choose from: Paragraph Style (1),
Block/Frame Style (2), and MarySue Protocol Style (3).

Note: Most other RP helper addons use a style similar to the 3rd template, with sections
dedicated to physical description / personality / history. Depending on how fancy your “About”
section is, other RP addons will not display everything. When in doubt, use template 3.

The top of the “About” tab is the same, regardless as to which template you choose.

The red arrow in the upper left will

allow you to choose a song that
represents your character.

You can only choose from the music within

the game’s files.
Left-Click to select the theme to display to others.
Right-click to play the theme (good if you want to listen
before you select one)

The Background drop-down will allow you to change the background

color of the About window.

The Template drop-down is where you select which template you

want to use.
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 20

Template 1

Template 1 will allow you to write in paragraph form.

Unsaved (What you see) Saved (What readers see)

Template 1 will allow you to use different codes to put icons and pictures into your profile.
Note: Those without TRP3 will be unable to see these icons/images.

H1: Makes a Header (Title)

{h1}Your text here{/h1}

H2: Makes a different Header (Title)

{h2}Your text here{/h2}

H3: Makes another Header (Title)

{h3}Your text here{/h3}

Image: Choose from images located in the game files.

Icon: Choose from Icons located in the game files.

Color: Allows you to change the color of text.

Link: Place a link in your profile.

Good for linking outside references and character artwork.
Note: The reader will be prompted to copy/paste the link when clicked - it will not take them directly to the site.

Note: When using more than one code for the same text, make sure you have them in the right
order. You want to sandwich the codes (bread is always the outermost item on both sides).
{h1} {col:5169ff} This is my text! {/col} {/h1} = This is my text!
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 21

Template 2

Template 2 separates information into blocks.

Unsaved (What you see) Saved (What readers see)

At the bottom is a red button. You can add as many or as few as you would
like.

Each individual frame can have a different background, adjusted by the drop down bar

on the bottom of each frame.

To the LEFT of each text box is an icon, which can be personalized.

Note: Have a box for just their gear? Put an armor icon there! A description of their face? Use the race
head icon. It’ll help split up the reader’s thoughts and organize it.

You can reorganize the order of the frames by using the red Up or Down arrows next to the red

button.
Note: Sometimes the up and down arrows bug out (at least for me). Saving progress and a quick /reload
ui seems to fix the problem.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 22

Template 3

Template 3 is similar to Template 2 in the fact it has frames for text blocks. However,
Template 3 has three pre-loaded blocks for physical description, personality traits, and
history.

Note: Most other RP helper addons use a style similar to the 3rd template, with sections
dedicated to physical description / personality / history. Depending on how fancy your “About”
section is, other RP addons will not display everything. When in doubt, use template 3.

Unsaved (What you see) Saved (What readers see)

Each individual frame can have a different background, adjusted by the drop down bar

on the LEFT of each frame.

To the LEFT of each text box is an icon, which can be personalized.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 23

Miscellaneous (Top Tab)

The Miscellaneous Tab is the last part of your character profile that is visible to others.

It is split into three main parts: the At First Glance, the Currently, and the Roleplay Style.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 24

At First Glance

These are the small circles that show on the "Character (Target) Bar" when you target a
user with TRP3.

These are things that other character should be able to pick up on right away, just by looking at
your character. Broken bones, certain smells, obvious things that someone would notice just by
looking at your character are good candidates for an "At First Glance" buff.

To add a new AFG buff, click on the icon space you'd like to put it. This will open up a new
window. Fill in the information about the buff, including the name, the description, and the icon
you want displayed.

Note: If you want to save the attribute, but don’t want it displayed right that moment, you can
uncheck the yellow check in the upper LEFT of the Glance Editor. This will keep the
information, but it will not be displayed to others.
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 25

Currently

The Currently section is visible on the tooltip mouseover of your character.

There are two sections - one for your character, and one for you.

The Currently IC is reserved for anything your character might be currently doing, or things that can be
considered 'hooks' for someone else to initiate walk-up RP. Try to make it something that would be
interesting and lead to someone approaching you!

Note: Those without TRP3 will not be able to see your OOC Currently section.

Note: Extra long Currently sections might be cut off in the tooltip mouseover. Check your
Settings>Tooltip Settings>Characters Tooltip>Max “current” information length. The maximum
that can be displayed is 200 characters, so don’t get too crazy.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 26

Roleplay Style
The Roleplay Style section of the Miscellaneous tab is a good place to show people how
you like to RP and what permissions you’d be willing to offer a potential RP partner.

These are extremely important to prevent godmodding, hurt feelings, and just general IC/OOC
drama.

Accept Character Romance
In-Character Frequence Yes
Full-time, no OOC No
Most of the Time With Player Permission
Mid-Time
Casual Roleplay Battle Resolution
Full-time OOC, not an RP character World of Warcraft PVP
TRP Roll Battle
Accept Character Injury /roll Battle
Yes Emote Battle
No
With Player Permission Guild Membership
IC Membership
Accept Character Death OOC Membership
Yes
No
With Player Permission

All of these sections have the option “Do Not Show”, which will make it invisible to
readers.

Simply select your answer using the drop-down options.

Note: There is no right or wrong answer to any of these drop-downs. If you’re totally cool with
someone coming up and /dueling you for IC consequences, by all means! If you’d rather you
kept to /roll combat, or didn’t fight at all, that’s perfectly fine too - this is what these questions are
for!
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 27

Companions
On the Companion tab you can add a pet or mount that your character is associated with.

They will be given a mouseover tooltip similar to a character, and a character (target) bar
when selected (if a companion pet).

To create a new companion profile, hit the red button on the top of
the Companion Tab screen. This will open the companion edit screen.

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 28

The Red Arrows on the RIGHT side of each profile name gives you a few options - Rename,
Duplicate, Delete Profile. Duplicate allows you to make an exact copy of the selected profile, which you
can then go in and change a few details (one for your character’s normal profile, and one for when they
are undercover for example).

On the RIGHT side of each companion on the list is a red button.

Clicking this will bring down a small drop-down menu with a few options.

Bound to … : Allows you to select which companion pet or mount you want to link to the profile.
Bound to Battle Pet : Opens a window to select which battle pet you’d like to link.
Note: Only renamed battle pets can be bound. You can rename your battle pet in the WoW interface.
Bound to Mount : Opens a window to select which mount you’d like to link to the profile.
Bound to Target: Allows you to link the companion profile to a hunter pet, mage elemental, minion,
ghoul, or renamed battle pet.

Unbound from … : Opens a menu to select which companion you want to unlink.
Only successfully linked companions are listed here.

Note: An easy way to bind a companion pet to one of your

companion profiles is to have your pet out and targeted. A
Character Bar should appear with a cogwheel. Click the cogwheel
icon and it will ask what companion profile you'd like to link it to.
You won’t be able to do this with a mount though, as you can’t
/target a mount.

On the companion edit screen there is a place for their Names and Titles, their At First Glance, and
the About (Template 1) section. These sections work exactly like the edit screens for a character.

Unsaved (What you see) Saved (What readers see)

Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 29

Directory
The Directory tab allows you to read over anyone's profile that you have previously seen.

Near the top are three tabs - the Character List, the Companion List, and the Ignored List.

On each list page we have three columns of information - Character, Relationship, and Flags.
Clicking on any of these columns will allow you to sort them alphabetically using the yellow arrow by
the column selected.
Character - the name of the character (the IC name set up by the player, not their in-game
name)

Relationship - what the relationship between your character and theirs is.
Note: ALL characters with a RP addon will be picked up and added to your directory. In order to
remember whether or not you've RPed with them, it's highly advisable to give them a relationship to
your character, even if it's simply neutral!

Flags - notifications about their profile.
means you have not read their profile
Note: you will get the unread description flag if they have updated their profile since the last time you read it.
Myth’s Guide to TRP3 - 30

means they have active At First Glance bubbles.

To the LEFT of the column header is a red Arrow. Clicking this will give you the option to
purge/delete or ignore profiles based on certain criteria.
Profiles not seen for 1 month
Profiles not bound to a character
Profiles from ignored characters
Note: Keeping too many profiles in your directory can begin to slow down TRP3 and therefore your game. It’s
recommended to clean out your directory every once in awhile. There are also options for auto-purging located in the
Settings>Register Settings>Auto Purge Directory.

You may also delete or ignore only certain profiles by clicking the checkbox of the characters you want
to delete BELOW that red Arrow, then clicking the Arrow and then selecting “Action on #
selected profiles”. You can then delete or ignore the profile(s) selected without harming any you’d like
to keep.

Towards the bottom of the directory tab is a search bar.

Enter their name or their guild, and then click the to filter by the criteria you entered.

There is also a checkbox for 'This realm only'. If you have a toon on a different server that picked up
directory profiles, checking this will ensure you only see profiles for those on your current server.

Note: you have to have a character on a player's home server to see their profile! This means that unless
you've seen them at one point on their home server, you won't see that they have an RP addon installed,
which is no different from now. You'll have to visit an alt just to fill in the TRP/MRP info of those random
xserver people you always see hanging out in the same spot.

Also, if someone xserver changes information in their profile, it will not update xserver unless you toon hop
and look at them again. Don't hold xserver's 'currently's as always true, unless you recently toon-hopped to
check!
